THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU---Richard Stanley, who was fired as the director of the infamous 1996 sci fi movie that starred Marlon Brando, Val Kilmer and David Thewlis, will direct a new version of the movie. Stanley was replaced by John Frankenheimer, who also suffered numerous problems filming the movie, including clashes with Kilmer, Brando and the crew. David Gregory's documentary LOST SOUL told the story behind the ill-fated movie that was based on the HG Wells novel.
Stanley said, “At this stage, I can’t say exactly by who, and how long it will take, but the project does live again, largely thanks to David. We’re currently scripting and designing the thing. It’s going to be an all-new screenplay and an all-new cast of beast-people; the original creatures are copyrighted by Warner Bros. [parent company of New Line, which produced and released the ’96 film]. I wasn’t particularly happy with them anyway.
The final designs of the creatures in the Frankenheimer version were disappointing, and I think there’s huge room for improvement. That’s something I’ve been talking about with the project’s backers at some length because that was also their concern, to reinvent the mousetrap in terms of the beast-people.
This time around, they seem to understand the film a bit better, and realize that the creatures are the stars of the movie, not the humans. That was the essential mistake made in the New Line version. They didn’t realize just how much mileage they could get out of those characters if they actually foregrounded them.”

GODZILLA 2---director Mike Dougherty released a photo of the Oxygen Destroyer from the original 1954 movie which hinted it may return for the reboot sequel.

GAME OF THRONES---a fan posted a photo from Season 6 showing the birthplace of the White Walkers and below it is a photo from Season 7 showing Jon Snow in a similar location which suggests Snow is headed to their birthplace to do battle.

THE WALKING DEAD---a second lawsuit has been filed against AMC regarding the network's profits from the zombie series. Producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Glenn Mazzara and David Alpert filed the lawsuit, similar to Frank Darabont's, against AMC alleging breach of contract, tortuous interference and fraudulent business practices. The lawsuit could reach $1 billion in damages.

THE X-FILES---Barbara Hershey (THE RIGHT STUFF) will play Erika Price, "a powerful figure who represents a mysterious organization" in Season 11. Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose will return as FBI Special Agents Miller and Einstein.

STAR WARS---Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said George Lucas no longer is heavily involved in the movie franchise he created, but still offers some input “Not really. But he’ll whisper in my ear every now and then. Usually, it’s something specific or important to him about Jedi training. Things like that.”
She added, “I think he’s starting to settle into this and just be a fan. It’s taken a while. It’s hard to let go, after 40 years. That’s a lot of expectation and things he thought a lot about. Suddenly that next generation, that whole thematic idea he came up with, is in [the] process.”

ALIEN: COVENANT---James Cameron (ALIENS) commented on the Ridley Scott sequel, “I thought that ALIEN: COVENANT was a great ride. It was beautiful. I love Ridley’s films, I love his filmmaking; I love the beauty of the photography. I love the visceral sense that you’re that, that you’re present. It’s not a film that I would have made. I hope I’m not spoiling this for anybody, but I don’t like films where you invest in a character and they get destroyed at the end. So, I would not have made that film. I can’t comment on where he’s going with it, but I think he’s, obviously, trying to create a greater universe around it and more backstory with the Engineers and so on. I’ll show up to the next one, absolutely.”

NOSFERATU---Anya Taylor-Young (SPLIT) is in negotiations to star in the remake of the classic 1922 vampire movie.

HELLBOY---a rumor about the R-rated reboot movie said, “you will see arcane artifacts: cryptid skeletons, freakish things encased in formaldehyde, period weapons. Fans will also get to see the symbol of a hand holding a sword, with the words: IN ABSENTIA LUCI, TENEBRAE VINCIUNT.” Also, it will include Abe Sapien, Major Ben Daimio, Alice Monaghan, Gruagach Baba, King Arthur, Merlin and a giant creature with its tentacles around London Bridge.

GOOD OMENS---David Tennant and Michael Sheen star in this Amazon/BBC six-part comedy miniseries based on the novel about an angel and a demon who enjoy living among mankind and are reluctant to join the upcoming Apocalypse and the missing Antichrist.

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX---Halston Sage (THE ORVILLE) is the top candidate to play Dazzler in the movie.

THE KAMINSKY METHOD---Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin star in this Netflix sitcom about a former actor who is now a famous acting coach.

QUANTUM AND WOODY---Joel McHale (COMMUNITY) is in talks to co-star in the tv series based on the superhero comic book.

TRADING POINT---John Travolta, Toby Sebastian, Shania Twain and Michael Madsen star in this movie about a father and son who become rivals in dirt track racing.

THE SECRET WORLD---tv series underway based on the video game about undercover agents who battle the supernatural and secret societies. Johnny Depp is the producer.

So, love his directing style but hate his scripts. Like the rest of us?

I recall Richard Stanley's Dr Moreau was going to be more bizarre and like a 70s Italian cannibal film in some parts. It went away from the book quite a bit. I'm surprised David Thewlis is interested in it, I assume he's the David That Stanley is referring to.

Walking Dead - how can they keep makîng them while suing AMC? Is this the sort of beginning of the end?

Thanks Dragon. I see I misread and didn't see the David before the Gregory, dumb of me. Doh!
