From Jon Burlingame:

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/simpsons-composer-alf-clausen-fired-1202543183/

"Clausen told Variety that he received a call from “Simpsons” producer Richard Sakai that the company was seeking “a different kind of music” and that he would no longer be scoring the longtime Fox hit.

A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment."

Wow, talk about stupid moves.

"a different kind of music" = synthetic/cheaper?

I'm sure they can just draw from a 30 year library for interstitials and intros, things like that.

Yeah, they probably want something cheaper, more modern. It wouldn't' shock me at all if they get somebody from the general vicinity of Zimmer; that's all it seems to take to get a scoring job these days, just being near him for a bit.

I'd love to hear him on one of Seth MacFarlane's animated shows.

Yeah, I'm betting they're going to synth, to save costs. I feel bad for Clausen. I just assumed he'd be there until the end.

Damn, that really sucks. He's a cool guy, told some funny stories at Fans of Film Music a couple years back

Sing along -- I called it the Clausencutters song!

"Who controls music field,
Richard Sakai does.

Who keeps the music budget down,
Richard Sakai doooes, FOX doooeeesss.

Who wants scoring like from a cellphone app,
Who keeps "Firefly" in the back,
FOX does, FOX doooeeesss."

I see he was a producer on "The Critic". Here's a quote for ya, Rich': it stinks!.

That's very unfortunate and like Jason said he was just a wonderful funny funny guy at Fans Of Film Music from a couple years ago. Was lucky enough to attend one of those special Halloween episodes when they were recording at The Bridge. The music was just great. Was able to take our dear friend Bill Begley who passed away a year and a half ago. GOOD memories all around.

Aside from the obvious suckage that he will no longer be scoring the show, this probably kills any chance of a soundtrack release with his music.

Well for a few years now they've been using a lot of classical music in the show anyway. I figured it was because Clausen was unable to handle the 'crunch' as much as he used to (he;s 76 now). So it's not nessesarily a surprising move, even if it's a sad one.

Though I say this as a fan of the show....why it it still going anyway?

Definitely going all-synth, like the post-revival seasons of Futurama on Cartoon Network.

Sadly this reminds me how they (producers) fired Ron Jones from STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION in season 4. Corporate politics suck!

Ah well. At least he had a good run. Few get to score a tv show with an orchestra for nearly three decades.

Yes. Hard to complain about a 27 year gig!

Richard Sakai has been a producer on "The Simpsons" since before it was even a series (he produced "The Tracey Ullman Show"). He is not generally beloved, but he has worked with the show's co-creator James L. Brooks since "Taxi."

His namesake has appeared on "The Simpsons" several times.

Well, hard to complain about a 27-year gig...unless you're the one canned. He had a nice run, and it's something to be very pleased about, but fired after 27 years of service? Pretty shitty move by the producer, I think.
