My first instinct is: I like it! Beautifully done imagery. Kind of like concept art brought to life. But it also has so many familiar images and "feelings" from Trek overall.

looks quickly thrown together by a high schooler practicing computer animation after school

Why is this the go-to internet insult on all things – "quickly thrown together by a high school student"? I would like to meet the high school student who could do this.

I like the art style, but there are turns in the music (like at :31) that aren't motivated by the imagery we're seeing and big movements in the imagery that aren't even hinted at in the music. It feels like the two components were made independently of one another and then just put together at the end. And the turn to the Courage fanfare at the end just feels clunky.

I had similar thoughts. But there have been great shows with so-so (or no) title sequences and mediocre shows with thrilling title sequences; here's hoping DISCOVERY falls into the former category.

I'm sure there will also be credits all over these images, so some of apparent disconnect between image and music may not be as obvious as in this clean version.

It's not because of poor execution, but lack of originality which brings out this statement. It looks like every other modern day 3D opening titles sequence with the morphing images and color pallet. Granted the sameness was probably forced on the artists by the people in suits.

Since when was Star Trek about the hardware? Where's the characters? Wheres the ideas of exploration? No, instead lets make the opening credits into a commercial about all the cool Star Trek gadgets you can buy! wink

Yes, I was wondering about the absence of credits.

Uncreative rehash of a HBO intro. Clearly sets the stage for the pretty trainwreck that followed.

Exactly! And if you saw the pilot it is a train-wreck.

Train wreck? You were watching a different show than I was. I enjoyed it (and the next episode too) and am very happy to have Star Trek back on TV again.

The pilot was okay. Has promise. Unfortunately, the music went in the more "modern" direction I feared it would (when you can hear it at all). I guess I'll stick with The Orville for my more traditional sci-fi music needs.

Don't want to derail the music thread so I'll just post this thread link:
