Zimmer is working with Radiohead, as the prophecy once foretold, to update their track "Bloom" from "King of Limbs" for the upcoming BLUE PLANET II. I'm sure the news will engage the Grumblecore but whatever, I love it.
Guess Fenton wasn't available. Or too expensive (I'll give the benefit of the doubt and not say he wasn't asked; you ask Zimmer but not Fenton after his work?).
Then there's Patrick Kirst, who did additional music for "Earth". Check out his work on the Orca theme park attraction music: https://www.patrickkirst.com/music

I can't claim to know anything officially (or unofficially), but Zimmer's done work for other BBC nature docs recently so I'm assuming it's just a continuation of that relationship.
Zimmer doesn't really add much to the song, just "orchestralizes" what was already there. Yorke did a solo piano version of "Bloom" that sounds similar to the opening of this version (and it's great):
Hans Zimmer is like that annoying neighbor who always shows up at the worst time and ruins your evening.
So true. He shows at the worst time and takes over your meal and TV viewing. I love Radiohead, and I love Blade Runner. And now Zimmer's hands are in both of those things.
