WA, the best North by Northwest is the original film recording, a great remastered version of which was put out by Intrada. I highly recommend it, though it has sadly sold out from them: http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7688/.f Yavar

I'm not sure about that specifically, but when I first bought North by Northwest I did so because it ws the complete McNeely rerecording. Funnily enough, I sold it when I heard the Johnson not-complete. The same happened with Torn Curtain. Bernard is one of my favorite composers, regardless of genre, but there was just too much Jeepers underscoring on both of those complete versions, and I even guess Bernard would have been weirded out by the inclusion of those cues. Would he though? His own re-recording of Psycho was full of what you might call "underscoring". You're probably right. I might have been thinking about what Jerry Goldsmith said about complete scores.

I've seen this around, but mistakenly thought it was Johnson. Nope! If you run across it at a reasonable price, do pick it up! Yavar
