Hi Friends,
I am listening to the La La Land Records CDs The Wild Wild West and Wonder Woman. Great scores of the 60-70's. Thank you La La Land for giving us the opportunity to enjoy so marvellous scores by great TV composers (Richard Markowitz, Fred Steiner, Artie Kane, Angela Morley and others). Both CDs are amazing (presentation, booklets,...).
It would be a dream to get the wonderful scores od the 80's prime time soap operas, Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Knots Landing. The scores were brilliant and I would die to get them.
Want the opportunity to listen to the music such great composers as Jerrold Immel, Bruce Broughton, Richard Lewis Warren, John Parker, Angela Morley, Lance Rubin, Peter Myers, Mike Post, Ben Lanzarone, Marvin Laird, Gerald Fried, Artie Kane, Richard Markowitz, Fred Steiner, Fred Werner, Dennis McCarthy, John E Davis, Ken Harrison, Duane Tatro and others created for these shows.
Does anyone know the possibility of a CD release? Some years ago, there were talks about a CD release with Dallas and Knots Landing scores by Jerrold Immel. And I know of a LP with Dallas music by John Parker.
It would be a dream to get these wonderful scores on CD!

I wish I could find that CD that you are talking about... In regards to Dallas; I don't believe that there has been any score (other than the main title) ever released! Is there any chance? I would obviously like the ultimate box-set... but even - if only one CD was released - at least it is a start? This is probably the longest running TV series of all time, and I know it would be a great seller - if someone like La La Land Records was to do it... I realise that some of my other Holy Grail's are sitting on the fence, but "WHAT ABOUT DALLAS?" Just read those "A List" composers involved!

I didn't get much of a reply in another thread, but since you've made a brand new thread - hopefully there are more like minded people like ourselves on this board!

BRING ON DALLAS!
Just watch one episode, and you will realise exactly how good the music really is! Very thematic, leitmotifs galore!

You mean this CD?

It doesn't look like it has much on it.

That CD!
Where are the score tracks?
I don't "mind" the songs but... I am a film score enthusiast...
It looks like not many people are interested in this thread anyway! (I am getting used to it)...

By the way, "Welcome To The Board" Philipe!

I would absolutely love a release of Dallas. In fact I've been thinking about that music a lot lately because I've noticed something...

I really enjoy the retro TV releases like Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, Wonder Woman etc. However I always tend to enjoy the gentle, romantic cues the most. Or the quiet tension music - and all out poppy lounge stuff. What I'm least interested in, is the trumpet heavy, bombastic action cues, which make up a lot of these albums. Hi find the often follow the action on screen so precisely, that they feel disjointed. I realised the other day that a release of Dallas would be like a collection of my favourite type of cues.

In other words...I'd totally buy a Dallas score album (along with Columbo and Night a gallery of course!).

I would love ALL of these. But I honestly feel Falcon Crest had the best music of the lot.

If there was much of a demand for them*, or if they'd been... well, that memorable to many people (or had a big-name-in-movie-music-circles behind them, like Jon Burlingame) ... there'd likely have been some kind of release by now. Not to mention the flawed logic of "If That Show Can Get A Release They Can't My Favourite Get One?"
*As opposed to the same person/few people endlessly asking for them or other titles to come out.

I have sent two emails to La La Land Records this year to ask for a release of such great scores and they answered the second time "maybe soon"... Who knows!
I am sure such a release would be a fantastic commercial success... those scores were so worked and well done...

Hi my friends,
who was your favorite Dallas composer?
Who was your favorite Dynasty composer?
Who was your favorite Falcon Crest composer?
Who was your favorite Knots Landing composer?
And do not forget The Colbys! Th Colbys had great scores by Peter Myers, Dennis McCarthy, John E Davis, Ken Harrison, Angela Morley and Ben Lanzarone...

It seems you have caught me out...

I have not watched any of the other TV Series on your list!
(The other series I would most likely want to have a look at - is "Dynasty")...

However; DALLAS is the only TV series I have viewed, and since we can't buy the complete collection of "Knots Landing" - I am also holding off on that one.

As for my favourite music composer of Dallas, that is defiantly Bruce Broughton.
My second choice would be John Carl Parker. I really like the theme he composed for the "Ewing" family. I believe it is mostly associated with "Jock"(s) character.

All of the composers were pretty much perfect... they all seemed to follow the tone which Jerrold Immel established.

Count me in for Dynasty.

Dynasty had so brilliant scores... My favourite were by Ben Lanzarone and Marvin Laird. They were huge, so Hollywood! I would kill to have them released on CD.
What are your favourites?

Does anyone know if a petition woud be a good idea and who we should address it?
La la Land Records seems the best solution, doesn't it?
Dallas, Dynasty, KL and FC deserve a CD release with a great booklet!

Do we have any news about a CD release for these marvellous scores?

This came up last month. I'll just copy and paste what I posted:

Back in 2010 Film Music Society was promoting they'd have this, but from one composer:

Our line of compact discs, featuring recordings of scores and songs restored from original production masters, will soon be expanding with releases including a never-before-heard interview with Miklós Rózsa, Jerrold Immel's music from Dallas and Knots Landing, the documentary music of Paul Sawtelle, and many other fascinating productions.

Here we are, about seven years later and not only has it not materialized, but there'd been no update.

That same quote is still on their site.

In fact, has there been anything from them (let alone the other projects mentioned in that quote) since 2010? I certainly can't name a single one.

Shirley Walker scored some of KNOTS LANDING and a bunch of FALCON CREST, so I'm on board. smile Such a release strikes me as pretty unlikely, though.

She did six for "Knots Landing". Twelve or thirteen for the other.
