Lukas has commented on it some. In January, 2016, he said: The site slows down periodically and then becomes normal after a reboot. It's an ongoing memory issue that we've struggled to correct. Thanks for your patience and apologies for the inconvenience. Lukas
He also said, but I couldn't find the quote, part of the problem was a lot of posted images and size, yet people keep posting not only images in the Now Playing threads, but large ones. It would be nice it people stopped that. We got a Now Playing thread at MainTitles, and we don't do that and the threads is just fine.

Lukas also commented in another thread (2011): We have almost 11,000 registrations. Alas, many are spambots, etc., but it is work to eliminate them. We also have a CD database that ties into the SAE store, six years of FSM Online content, 15 years of magazine pdfs, 14 years of blog posts... our message board was custom-built before there were such things as Vbulletin and I think if we were to start from scratch, there's no way we could keep the old posts and registrations, which would make many people unhappy. Lukas
I for one don't want to lose the rich history of information and threads of various topics, so upgrading apparently isn't the way to go. Also, Thor, you're not disagreeing with me -- I am only recanting what Lukas said and he would know better than you.

This is literally the only website that is so incredibly slow to load (so frequently) that I literally browse the internet in a separate window while I'm waiting. I do that too! I have to do this pretty much every time I try to get on to FSM. I have cleared everything out, which is done weekly, but still can visit multiple other sites as FSM is loading. Lukas must not want any help financially to improve it or it would have been done by now.

Remember the magazine days when you read a letter by someone and you wanted to reply, it took some 2 months to get printed! Now that's slow!
