I think I've found my cd of choice for this excellent score, the Tadlow is simply too darn attractive to pass up imo.

I'm just wondering, could I live without the extras in the 3 cd as opposed to the 2? Does the 48 page booklet come with both, etc.?

I'd be hugely grateful for any help.

I only have the 2 disc version, which is the full score I believe. I'm never that interested in alternates or whatever, so I can live without the third disc. The booklet must be abbreviated though, I don't remember it being that extensive on the 2 disc version.

Thank you! I am probably quibbling, but I love this score and don't want to miss out...especially on the full score.

I'm not particularly wild about alternates either, though I get the feeling I might miss the longer booklet (not to mention the videos of this score being recorded).

Still, it's enough of a price difference to make me think.

The 3 disc also has an excellent suite from Rozsa's superb score to Double Indemnity...

And it is a damn attractive package.

Hmmm, thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that.

Definitely go for the 3CD version.

The third disc also reconstructs the LP versions of such tracks as "Palace Music" and "Battle of Valencia."

Superb recordings.

Every note!!

Thanks so much everyone! I had to grab the Tadlow Quo Vadis first (oh my GOSH this is an amazing score!!!), but the three disc El Cid is next up.

Well, precisely, the third disc doesn't have 'LP versions' of anything. ('not like George to booboo!)

There are recordings of several previously reworked pieces taken from the Koch International Sedares NZ arrangements, and a few alternative takes. The 'LP' version of 'Battle of Valencia' was actually rather longer in Rozsa's Munich album. 'Wedding Supper and Palace Music' was the Palmer arrangement.

But there's the original 'Legend and Epilogue' with the different macabre opening to replace the organ, and the choral exit song. Plus the concert 'Entry of the Nobles', and that 'Double Indemnity' suite and some vids of the orchestra and a Doug Raynes interview with James and Nic.

All relevant.
