BLADE RUNNER 2049---here are early comments by critics.

“Blade Runner 2049 is stunning visually. Some truly inspired moments. Not sure as a story it 100% works? Lower those expectations a tad. Villeneuve has some truly masterful sequences, deserves best director nod consideration. And no joke Harrison Ford is fantastic, best supporting actor nod is not a reach. Deakins, Prod Design and Visual Effects? Major, major player.” – Gregory Ellwood, The Playlist

“#BladeRunner2049 was one of the most mind-blowing films I’ve seen. It’s breathtaking and transportive. Denis Villeneuve has a masterpiece.” – Jenna Busch, Coming Soon

“BLADE RUNNER 2049 is sci-fi masterpiece; the kind of deep-cut genre film we don’t see anymore. Visually mindblowing, absolutely fantastic… I think this Blade Runner is better than the original, and also proves Denis Villeneuve is the most exciting director working right now.” – Erik Davis, Fandango

“.@BladeRunner 2049 is phenomenal. Visually mind-blowing sci-fi w/ noir roots shining through in a tight, twisty mystery. Best of 2017 so far” – Eric Eisenberg, Cinema Blend

“Early word on BLADE RUNNER 2049 is very strong. Doubt Denis Villeneuve at your own peril, people.” – Scott Wampler, Birth Movies Death

“Good news! BLADE RUNNER 2049 is a terrific continuation and expansion of the orig. Wasn’t hoping for much, ended up LOVING it. (Even Leto!).” – Jordan Hoffman, The Guardian

“I’ve seen Blade Runner 2049 and it was great. Visually stunning, emotionally engaging in a way I didn’t expect. And that’s all I can say” – Jim Vejvoda, IGN

“I saw #BladeRunner2049 and it is BREATHTAKING. It’s an impressive follow-up, preserving mysteries, adding new ones, expanding the universe.” – William Bibbiani, Crave Online

“#BladeRunner2049 is a rare sequel that actually improves on the original. Great Performances & Visually Breathtaking. Villeneuve nails it.” – Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment

“Everyone bow down to Denis Villeneuve. He’s done the impossible and delivered a huge home run with ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Loved it. You do not have to have seen the original ‘Blade Runner’ to watch ‘Blade Runner 2049’. But it will def make the film better if you have.” – Steve Weintraub, Collider

Also, director Denis Villeneuve said David Bowie was the original choice to play the villain, but Bowie's death led to Jared Leto getting the role.

WONDER WOMAN---James Cameron made more controversial comments about the Gal Gadot movie, "I’ll stand by that [calling Gadot’s Wonder Woman an ‘objectified icon’]. I mean, she was Miss Israel, and she was wearing a kind of bustier costume that was very form-fitting. She’s absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that’s not breaking ground. They had Raquel Welch doing stuff like that in the ’60s. It was all in a context of talking about why Sarah Connor — what Linda created in 1991 — was, if not ahead of its time, at least a breakthrough in its time. I don’t think it was really ahead of its time because we’re still not [giving women these types of roles].”
He added, "Linda [Hamilton] looked great [in the TERMINATOR films]. She just wasn’t treated as a sex object. There was nothing sexual about her character. It was about angst, it was about will, it was about determination. She was crazy, she was complicated. … She wasn’t there to be liked or ogled, but she was central, and the audience loved her by the end of the film. So as much as I applaud Patty directing the film and Hollywood, uh, ‘letting’ a woman direct a major action franchise, I didn’t think there was anything groundbreaking in WONDER WOMAN.”
Cameron also commented on TERMINATOR 6 and the earlier movies in the series, “This is a continuation of the story from TERMINATOR 1 and TERMINATOR 2. And we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse. This was really driven more by [director Tim Miller] than anybody, surprisingly, because I came in pretty agnostic about where we took it. The only thing I insisted on was that we somehow revamp it and reinvent it for the 21st century.”
He said about dealing with Arnold Schwarzenegger's age in TERMINATOR 6, “You don’t have to get around it. The beauty of it is: He’s a cyborg. And so, the org part is on the outside, meaning organism. And Reese says it in the first film: ‘They sweat. They have bad breath.’ Because they were supposed to be infiltration units, so there’s this idea that flesh sort of sheaths over a metal endo-skeleton. So that would age normally. So, obviously he’s one that’s been in action and operation for a long time. And that’s all I want to say about the actual story part of it.”
Also, the budget for Cameron's four AVATAR sequels will exceed $1 billion.

ROOSEVELT---Leonardo DiCaprio will star in this Martin Scorsese Theodore Roosevelt biomovie based on the biography THE RISE OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT.

GAME OF THRONES---the final six episodes will cost $15 million each.

X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX---Olivia Munn said the movie will be, "a two-parter."

THE BIG BANG THEORY---Bob Newhart will return as Arthur Jeffries/Professor Proton on the November 2 episode.

8---Gaumont television tv series underway based on Stephen King's N novella.

And all the critics gave "Force Awakens" and "Jurassic World" high marks too. Hopefully it's better than those efforts.

Oh, shudap! No one complains when male actors wear tight t-shirts, and take them off so they can show off their bodies to the ladies.

Not much of a comment, deferring to other critics.

The book takes place in a post-apocalyptic irradiated world. I forget if the first film acknowledges that. If the sequel doesnt....no codpieces, no sale.

Dragon,

those comments on Br2049 are not critics, those are fanboy bloggers, real critics are under review embargo

So, who has more credibility? The guys paid to review or people who love the art form and are - arguably - harder to please?

Obviously, everyone will have an opinion so who cares (I never listen to critics anyway), but I'm jazzed about the film and am happy to read even a little posiitive buzz.

The idea that critics do not love the art form and are less credible than a blogger is totally silly. Here are the samples of the flip-flop blogger crowdSteven Weintraub on 'Kingsman: The Golden Circle': "It's a super-fun ride and a great sequel."

Steven Weintraub on 'Spider-Man: Homecoming': "Saw Spider-Man Homecoming again tonight. I know I keep saying it but it's fucking awesome."

Steven Weintraub on 'Cars 3': "Cars 3 is easily my favorite of the Cars franchise. Some of the animation while they're driving on the open road looks real. It's crazy."

Steven Weintraub on 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2': "Kept a smile on my face from beginning to end. Funny, action packed, emotional, and tons of surprises. Thumbs up."

Steven Weintraub on 'Fate of the Furious': "Is everything you want it to be and a ton of fun. @TheRock is a straight up superhero in the film and I loved it."

Steven Weintraub on 'Ghost in the Shell': "Visuals are fantastic. The establishing shots are wow. Also has some incredible action set pieces. See in @IMAX 3D!"

Steven Weintraub on 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales': "You might be surprised to hear me say this but I really dug the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Action set pieces are a lot of fun."

Yeah, because Cameron has such a track record for making "shitting" movies.

But yeah, he is totally wrong about Wonder Woman - I mean, the version I saw had the ugly Gal Gadot dressed in either a nun's costume or head to toe in Knight's armour - not the costume that pushed up Gadot's tits that Cameron was talking about. It's a totally non-sexist movie and Gadot will doubtless win an oscar for her performance - doubtless the reason she was cast in th first place, despite her hideous looks and terrible body.

Sir, I said Avatar, not the bulk of his work, which I didn't even bring up. Don't put words into my mouth.

No one said Cameron's wrong; we're just sick of him verbally masturbating to his own achievements.

Which reminds me wasn't the blue girl topless? Only a conveniently placed necklace hid her nipples? That's not sexist at all, right? Oh wait, of course it's not sexist when it's a "colored native". Err, maybe it's racists?

I don't give a shit what Cameron has to say about anything, especially superhero movies, but telling him to shut up anonymously on the obscure message board is so sad. It's just movies, people, and stupid ones, too. They're not important, Cameron is not important...

But free speech is important.

And Solium..... go wank your pee pee.

Not starting a new thread, it looks like Blade Runner 2049 is not doing good in box office.
It's sad for such excellent movie.

I hope they are wrong:

I'm seeing it tomorrow. Not sure if I'll like it, but I'm going.

Same was true for WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, excellent reviews, disappointing box office. Strange summer. I think going to the movies just isn't in style these days.

The film's running time (BR 2049) is being cited as a problem related to the day's average 'bums on seats' throughput, as well as viewer restlessness.

What is interesting here is that the film-makers are aware of these things, are they not? Personally, if I'm paying money at the 'going rate' expected from attendees in this day and age, I'd rather experience the immersion of 'extra time' necessary for the sense of an 'epic' to ring true in assimilating the characters and plot. Of course, it takes skill and editing deftness to keep the viewer engrossed. Maybe a score that doesn't make your teeth grind helps in large measure, too.

If all these necessary ingredients required to make compelling 'roadshow' films is at odds with a singular determining financial scalar quantity, the future of compelling feature films is non-existent.

Epic like "Lawrence of Arabia"? The original BR wasnt epic, maybe they took this thing too far. Shoulda cast Will Smith as the new hip rapping Blade Runner, woulda got additional market-appeal. wink

Interesting breakdown there, LC. Imagine bringing Wyler's Ben-Hur in under 2 hours? I saw the BR Director's Cut not that long ago and it was under 2 hours. That's why it wasn't an epic. It had Shakespearean plot elongation undertones that might have been exploited, but ultimately the film did not capitalise on them. Now, to be a fly on the wall in the same room as Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve in assessing the 2049 general release cut?
