Yup, I finally did it. I watched episodes 1-6 of the Star Wars series in a row. TNT has had them running all week, I had a strenuous work week and rewarded myself with a SW binge yesterday and today. Prior to this, I had seen all of them in the theatre and had watched various on VHS or dvd through the years but never in any particular order. Obviously it was due to the order of the releases but also because I felt this 4-6 prior to 1-3 was so disjointed and took away their appeal to me personally. Add to that the fact I enjoyed them but felt no particular affinity to them like I have for Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. That has changed. Why, I'm not sure but it has. I asked my husband why I suddenly felt the need to spend almost an entire weekend doing this. He suggested perhaps the Williams score? No, I have, heard and love it but no. He suggested perhaps the pending release of the final movie? No, that never prompted me before when a "final" episode was forthcoming. He suggested a bucket list or OCD? No, but I actually considered the possibility. I think I have the answer. Having seen episodes 4-6 so long ago and so many times since, I was tired of them. Having seen episodes 1-3 in the company of opinionated offspring over a 5 year period, I didn't want to listen to the back and forth of "they suck" or "they don't suck." Mama decided to do herself a favor. I sat down and watched the entire six episodes with new eyes and an open mind. I didn't give a single thought to the endless articles, reviews, and opinion pieces I have read and heard these last 12-18 years about the prequels. I didn't keep my ears pricked and perked for the Williams' score. I watched each episode as if I were seeing it for the first time. The result? I FEEL like I have seen them for the first time. What a ride! It was wonderful and worth every moment. Come December, I will be sad at the conclusion, just as I felt at the conclusion of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

I came in on the Episode IV and had to turn it off and dig out my DVDs and finish watching it. Too many commercials. I thought it was funny to complete Episode VI and turn it back to regular TV and see and see their Episode VI just starting. The TNT version to us was cropped and you were not seeing the whole movie. There were black backs, but not a big as the DVD release.

Congrats. Now you don't have to watch them again.
