FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20

STAR WARS: EPISODE IX---a fan who talked with JJ Abrams and writer Chris Terrio commented on their conversation, “They said that they’re going to be brave and there will be big surprises. I got the impression that JJ felt like he had to refresh previous Star Wars moments for a modern audience in TFA [THE FORCE AWAKENS], and now it feels like they have free reign to do what they want. Apparently they’ve had no interference from Kathleen [Kennedy] or Pablo [Hidalgo] or the Lucasfilm Story Group. 9 is also the film which unites all three trilogies and brings everything together. That’s all they would tell me.
I worry a little bit that the questions I was asking were too leading. I was speaking to Chris and he was talking about the OT [original trilogy]. I said about how I grew up with the PT [prequel trilogy] and the prequels were my entry point into Star Wars. I asked about elements of the PT coming into 9 and Chris said about how 9 unites all of it. He said 9 definitely makes it feel like they’re all happening in the same universe, and there would be PT elements in 9. They could be visual or thematic – he didn’t overtly say that there would be returning planets or characters from the PT or anything.”

STAR WARS---David Fincher explained why he declined a chance to direct a STAR WARS movie, “I talked to [producer Kathleen Kennedy] about that and look, it’s a plum assignment. I don’t know what’s worse: being George Lucas on the set of the first one where everyone’s going, ‘Alderaan? What the hell is this?’ Where everyone’s making fun, but I can’t imagine the kind of intestinal fortitude one has to have following up the success of these last two. That’s a whole other level. One is that you have to endure the withering abuse of Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, and the other is you have to live up to a billion or a billion-five, and that becomes its own kind of pressure.
You’d have to really clear your head, I think. You’d have to really be sure this is what you wanted to do because either way it’s two years of your life, 14 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Fincher also commented on the WORLD WAR Z sequel, “We’re hoping to get a piece of material that’s a reason to make a movie, not an excuse to make a movie”.

HOLLYWOOD'S MOST PROFITABLE---UK gaming site PartyCasino analyzed data from the top 100 movies from 1980-2017 to determine Hollywood's most and least profitable actors and movies based on how many dollars were generated versus one dollar spent.

Most profitable actors:
Emilio Estevez--$6.70
Jean-Claude Van Damme--$4.20
Mel Gibson--$3.50.

Least profitable actors:
Brad Pitt--ten cents
Johnny Depp--20 cents
Robert De Niro--24 cents
Hugh Jackman--25 cents
Anthony Hopkins--26 cents

Most profitable actresses:
Rose Byrne--$9.80
Regina Hall--$3.50
Octavia Spencer--$2.90

Most profitable movies:
Mystery--$39.89
Horror--$34.13
Thriller--$17.36
Documentary--$7.38

Least profitable movies:
Action--$1.89
Crime--$2.01
Musical--$2.05

IT 2---Bill Skarsgard commented on changes for the sequel, “The first movie worked so well at what it is trying to do, I think, and ultimately that is the kids’ story, and you follow these kids and you sort of fall in love with these kids. And the second one will be the adult story. And I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different.
...It could be almost a sort of surrealistic sort of psychedelic trip if you go into the mind of Pennywise. And if you’ve read the novel you know that they do actually go into his mind. Or they go into this transdimensional place, and they sort of beat him in this place. Which might be interesting, what that place would be, and what would it look like."

JUSTICE LEAGUE---Zack Snyder posted a photo of himself with the Atlanteans and the Amazons on the film set.

THE SHAPE OF WATER---poster released for the Guillermo del Toro romantic monster movie.

PLAYBOY---PLAYBOY announced that French model Ines Rau is the magazine's first transgender Playmate and will be featured in the November/December issue, the first issue after founder Hugh Hefner's death.

VENOM---Scott Haze (THEY YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE) is in talks to join the cast in an undisclosed role.

MIRACLE WORKERS---Steve Buscemi will play God in the TBS comedy anthology series starring Daniel Radcliffe. Buscemi replaces Owen Wilson.

CHELSEA---Chelsea Handler announced she's not returning to her Netflix show, "For these reasons, I've decided not to return for another season of 'Chelsea', and instead devote as much time as I can to becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen and to focus on projects that have significance to me. My goal is to be better informed, raise my voice, and participate in a more meaningful way."
However, an inside source said the show was really cancelled and was caused by Handler's bitter feud with Jennifer Aniston, “Jen’s friends are all staunchly loyal, and are not interested in hanging with Chelsea...Maybe that fight had something to do with it. She was used to getting top people but then they stopped coming on her show. Netflix wanted her to deliver A-list stars and she wasn't."
The source added, "Chelsea wasn't funny anymore. Netflix signed up for a funny show. She was bitter and mean. Netflix was fine with Chelsea doing a political show as long as it was funny or biting, but it wasn't."

PROJECT 13---CW series underway based on the DC Comics character Traci Thirteen described as, “a twenty-something forensic scientist and believer in the paranormal who discovers her own hidden extra-sensory abilities when she joins her estranged, skeptic father to investigate mysterious cases of the paranormal and unexplained phenomena.”

BIG GUNS---movie underway based on the novel by former New York Congressman Steve Israel in which Chicago's mayor starts a national campaign to ban handguns while an Arkansas congressman introduces a bill which requires all Americans to own a handgun.

Useless information, that has nothing to do with film or television.

PZFAN:

The original article was on imdb (internet MOVIE data base), so take it up with them. If it's good enough for imdb, then it's good enough for FSM.

Lighten up, gents.
Dragon's threads are not exclusively about movies or music.
They can, and often do, encompass all of the other forms of media out there.
And if any of you don't like it, no one forces you to click on 'em.

That's very telling. Sounds like it made you feel extra uncomfortable.

Might I take it you're upset at the continued exploitation of women even after Hef's passing?

Eh, Caroline "Tula" Cossey did it first. Maybe not as a Playmate, but whatever.

First you have to actually use women in your photo shoots.

Ah, so you're just being an ass. Got it.

I must say, though, I'm disappointed. I really thought you were better than that.

Using an ironic reversal of the cliche, "I wouldn't want to be a part of any club that would have me as a member", I respectfully suggest that if the transgender segment of the population feels they are underrepresented in the world of pictorial smut, they are quite free to start their own magazine.

Women aren't forced into modeling for Playboy. So I don't agree with your assessment they are exploited. At least not anymore than any other employee in the workforce.

I'll tell you even more. I don't like it, I don't have to like it, and there's nothing you can do about it.

This is a board for Soundtrack discussion, not a GLAAD rag.

Thank me.

Exactly.

We have Playboy for guys who want to see girls.

We have Playgirl for girls who want to see guys.

So, save this for PlayPat -- for guys and girls who want to see It's Pat.
