Hi all,

I'll be having a chat with Bruce Botnick at Creature Features in Burbank on Sunday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m. (Note this is the day after we "Fall back.")

We'll be going into detail about the scoring of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Poltergeist as part of their 35th anniversary celebrations and also cover his work with Jerry Goldsmith and for other scores.

A big thank you to Taylor White for hosting this great opportunity for inside info on some legendary film scores. Hope to see you there!

Mike M.

Address is 2904 W Magnolia Blvd in Burbank. creaturefeatures.com
Sun 11/5 1:00 p.m.
(and don't forget the time change)

Looking forward to attending this. I am sure Mr. Botnick has some great stories to tell.

I'm surprised no one else has commented on this.

Bumping this for anyone who may have missed it. It would great to have LA-based fans come to this. We're going to cover a lot of ground and show some scenes without score in them.

It would be great if someone recorded this conversation for a podcast. I've been a big fan of Bruce Botnick since back in his Doors days, and of course the terrific work he did with Jerry Goldsmith. It's a long commute from Austin to L. A. so I doubt that I'll be able to make it, but it would be incredible to be able to hear it at some point. Or even to read a transcript if nothing else. What a waste for a fascinating conversation to just evaporate into the ether (or smog, as the case may be).

Yes, I'm very excited about this and would absolutely love for this conversation to be recorded so that it can be enjoyed by a lot of us who aren't fortunate to attend (I'm from Portugal)

Great time at Creature Features today.

A lot of nice reminiscences from Bruce, nice inside dope.

Anybody care to share any juicy gossip or fun anecdotes?
Did Jim Morrison do drugs?
Did Jerry Goldsmith hate his 'bottle-top record collecting' fans?

One item was learning that Goldsmith wasn't that good a conductor until around THE OMEN when he began to take lessons from the conductor at LA SCALA.

Anybody remember the name of the guy?

This event was absolutely incredible! We the fans could have sat there much longer just listening to stories of the scoring stage and stories you won't hear anywhere else from the people who sat right beside the greats like Goldsmith and Williams. I hope to everything holy Creature Features does another event with these two! It was a packed house and even people sitting on the floor.

...or, least, a written transcript of the conversation.

Dang! I SO wanted to see this. Alas, I still have too much stuff to do on the new house, and weekends are the only time to do the work.

I'm a geek about sound and recording techniques. I used to look for soundtrack LPs recorded/mastered by Digital Magnetics and Bruce Broughton because the sound quality was so damn good.

Do you know if anyone recorded it?

Do you mean Claudio Abbado?

"You magnificent pagan god!"

(hopefully you get this quote from another Williams film).

Thank you!

Now posted on my YouTube channel, which I really hoped to make more use of than I have, but there have just been too many projects and before I knew it 5 years have gone by! Anyway here is my chat with Bruce Botnick. Thanks to Matt Hightshoe and Dave Fein for handling the recording and tech and Creature Features for hosting it. Note that we had to skip over the clips that those attendance got to see. Enjoy!
