Haunting, The: The Deluxe Edition Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Jerry Goldsmith UPC: 030206118186 Release Date: 10/30/2017
We celebrate Halloween this year with a Deluxe Edition of Jerry Goldsmith's classic score for 1999 remake of The Haunting. We have been getting so much mail about this one and are so excited to finally bring it back, remastered and sounding better than ever, now over twice as long! What a theme! What a score!
Happy Halloween!
This horror tale focuses on visitors to the secluded mansion of Hill House who have been called to the isolated location by Dr. David Marrow (Liam Neeson) as part of a study on insomnia. However, Marrow is really investigating fear, and he plans to scare the subjects, including the introverted Nell (Lili Taylor) and the seductive Theo (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Unfortunately for Marrow and everyone staying at Hill House, the manor is actually haunted by an evil spirit out to torment its guests. The Haunting was directed by Jan de Bont (Speed, Twister).
CDs expected to begin shipping the week of November 20.

But looking at the tracklist i m a little afraid my most wanted cue is not present:
24. Terror In Bed / Nell’s Room (6:56)
It seems to miss the track between these two cues. It s an action piece, when they re trying to get through the gate with the car... That s a piece i wanted so much! I ll get the CD of course... i hope i m wrong, really!
It being 2000 copies, I would think it would last till November 4. But I got hosed on the 1000 copy run of Papillon from Quartet so I'm not waiting even a day!
Finally! This one's been pretty much at the top of my wish list ever since Bruce Kimmel remarked here on the site years ago how well the score plays in complete form. Now I'll be able to hear it for myself without having to endure that wretched movie.
Really surprised Yavar hasn't chimed in on this one yet!
I'm trying to update my Goldsmith thread but at least for me this board is horribly sluggish. But I'm very excited by this release and certainly hope it includes every cue!
EDIT: I just learned on Facebook that Jeff Bond wrote the liner notes to this. Hurrah!
It's great to know all that much missed music is finally being released. But I DO have one quibble
It's not complete.
In fact, it's really dropping the ball.
They included the album version of...finally home????
No. There are 3 tracks they could very well have included.
First is the film version of "The Picture Album" which is drastically different (and shorter) than the album. Why not include both of these?
Second, is the film version of the final cue - when Eleanor joins the souls of the children. Again, vastly different from the album version. Another squandered opportunity.
Finally, the Victrola variation of the children's lullaby as Eleanor plays it when she enters the nursery near the end of the film - a truly haunting variation and it's a shame it wasn't included.
Nice job Varese...again.
Unless I am mistaken which if I am someone please explain. Otherwise...just one more reason I resent varese sarabande.
I for one am glad they included the album version of "Finally Home" because it's significantly better than what ended up in the film. It'll be great to hear this score in expanded form. One of Jerry's highlights from his later years.

It's their trademark business model. How else can you milk a dead cow?
