The Users is a cheesy 1978 Spelling TV movie starring Jaclyn Smith with a terrific Maurice Jarre that will probably never be released (as far as I know, the masters for those Spelling productions are long gone).

I saw this on cable during a very bored moment two decades ago...

Did they take care of any element of their productions outside of costume design?

About 1:39:00 in is probably one of the worst-scored scenes I've seen (well, from a quality composer -- I won't say Junkie XL in the same breath).

I couldn't disagree more. Jarre providing a circus-like pop waltz to underscore a driving and walking scene just strikes me as being a particularly European approach to scoring a transitional scene (a lot of French and Italian dramas/comedies of the period had cues like this). No, it's not very dramatic music, but I like Jarre's lighter, circus-like approach (a lot of his scores have this sound, most controversially "Ryan's Daughter," a score I happen to love).

I also wanted to thank Lukas for posting about this. A shame the Jarre score may be lost to the ages as it's quite good.

Loving this, thanks again LK for the Indy Jones act of archaeology- I swear I've been all over the Jarre-ography, and I'm still missing stuff.
Great, and unfortunately lengthy (for me- no album will never happen, sniff sniff) score.
Shades of Last Tycoon meets Only Game In Town. Even the youtube comments gave a bit of love to Jarre.
Love the bit of the cold hearted exec axing Randy's big picture from 128mins to 97mins without batting an eye . Brrrr!
Good call Dylan on the cyclical, circus feel....sums up Hollywood to me, perfectly.

To GoblinScore and all the other fans of Jarre, I don't know if this book has been mentioned before:

http://www.jacques-hiver.com/Pages/maurice_jarre_disco.htm

The author was a personal friend of the composer and is probably the best specialist of Jarre. He was in charge of the TNP 3 CD box and also of the FSM CD CONCERT WORKS coproduced with the author of this thread, Lukas.

Enjoy
Laurent

Cheers Laurent!
I'm familiar with Monsieur Hiver and
have sent him thanks and kudos at least twice for his fine work & championing of Maestro Jarre. I wish that book was in English, I'd love to read it.

I love that 3cd GNP box set, very lucky to hear such early work - ditto the concert works disc. I wish that continued as a series and hadn't done poorly in sales - I'll always wonder why maybe more tonal & accessible pieces weren't chosen first? As it is, very fascinating to hear those early pieces.
