cd release = instant purchase for me. I don't love vinyls. There isn't a CD of that material forthcoming. Certainly not from that label. It's a four or five year old release at this point. And it's out of print to boot. For some reason this forum is just discovering it, but it's come and gone twice.

It still breaks my black ole heart that the film version of Chariots of Pumpkins that accompanies the opening sequence of the movie was not on the AHI release. For decades I dreamed of having that cue, my favorite of the score, and I was really bummed when it was nowhere to be found. I did write to Mr. Howarth about it once; he had no idea it was missing and said he would look into it, but he didn't and I didn't feel it appropriate to pressure him. I'll hang onto hope a while longer...kinda like I'm still hoping Barry Devorzon's Looker will magically appear one day.

I did notice that the classical piece that Marge is listening to in her hotel room is identical to the one that Adrienne Barbeau has playing in her car when driving to the lighthouse in The Fog. That stretch of road also appears in both films. Good ear! And eye! ...kinda like I'm still hoping Barry Devorzon's Looker will magically appear one day. You and me both. I would love to get that score.

Yeah, someone please reissue this correctly! I slept on Halloween III as a film for years, and now it's my favorite one of the Carpenter Halloween era.

So, i have finally received the "deluxe reissue" Death Waltz LP All in all, i'm very happy to have it, but it indeed *is* a mixed bag... Pro: It really does contain superior mixes for many tracks - when compared to the AHI CD. "Hospital Assassin" ("Hey Boom" on AHI and "Robot kills Grimbridge" on DW) sounds vastly superior in the second - sequencer-based - half, while i personally prefer the sonics in the first - ambient - half of the AHI version. "Samhain" (second half of "I do love good joke" on AHI and "Cochran speaks" on DW) is vastly superior and deeper here. Also, the two previously unreleased cues "Gas Station" and "Chariots (alt mix)" are great to finally have. The alternate version of "Titles (alt mix)" is nice to have and is yet another version (it's different to "Halloween III close/open" on AHI). The two additional jingles are a fun inclusion and as irritating as ever . I have no idea what the 6th unreleased cue - indicated on the OBI strip - is supposed to be... Contra: The main grudge here is that - probably due to the length of the album - the master has been mixed at a very low volume level. The volume of the LP is about at least one third (if not half) lower than other LPs in comparison. In effect that means that all crackles, pops, hisses of the vinyl (surface noise) is waaay louder than it should be. My copy is a second hand copy - so possibly it has more wear (though not visible) than it used to have. Looots of crackles and pops. Very, very annoying. Yes, i know it's vinyl - but there's so many great pressings out there where you don't hear a thing throughout an entire side. Not the case here. Again, possibly it's just my copy (i have the one on orange vinyl, possibly the limited "splattered" release sounds better? It certainly does on the YouTube rip). So be warned. Needless to say, the tracklist is all messed up. Some track titles are misleading ("Buddy's Death" actually is the drill to temple scene and should be called "Teddy's Death" or "Just Another Drill" as i call it), "Santa Mira Nightfall" is the second half of "Hello Grandma" (which is annoyingly split among the two sides and interrupted by the "one more day" jingle), others are just weird ("Microphone" is the first drive through the factory scene). As was noted before, "Robots At The Factory" is listed on the cover, but not to be found anywhere on the album. In its place, the short "Marge/Misfire" cue is repeated for a second time. Also, "South Corridor" is listed on the sleeve but absent - "Goodbye Ellie" is on the record in its place (but not listed on the sleeve). So, yes, a must have for the die-hard collector, but far from a "definitive" release (as two album tracks are missing). Please, please SOMEBODY release a complete CD version with these exact mixes. I'm going crazy here!!! Best, Burnie
