I finally opened ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM. I really like it.

Also, I noticed that
a) enough time had passed that I only have superficial recollections of the film,

AND,

b) enough "Herrmann-isms" are present in the score,

THEREFORE,

c) I got the feeling that Siam is a place many miles underground, peopled by tall, aluminum robots. smile

This was Volume 3 of Varese's "Bernard Herrmann at Fox" releases, wasn't it? I managed to get the other two, but this one eluded me (I'm going back to the days when you could buy CDs in "shops"). I really liked what I heard when I caught up with the film. Quite surprised how much I enjoyed the movie actually, as I thought it wouldn't really be my cup of tea.

It's also Disc 2 of the now-OOP Varese "Bernard Herrmann at 20th Century Fox" box, if you're a wealthy man and would still like to have one... (There's a set available on Amazon US for a mere $1299.99 if you act fast!)

Cheers Dana. I'll get that after I get the Rózsa box, the Raksin box, the Quincy Jones box, the "Mission Impossible" box, and the 289 regular 1-CD and double-CD releases on my list (lowest price 6 euros, highest 60).

Wow, did nobody but 2 people besides me like this score?? A Herrmann score, one of his Oscar nominations.

Is it because it has no blood, beasts or fisticuffs?

Good taste yours, fellow!

Wonderful movie, which passes in a snap of fingers (so exciting it is!), does not look like it has 130 minutes! Two great pillars of Hollywood: Irene Dunne and Rex Harrison (et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!)!

And the Hermann's soundtrack ... well, in my opinion, is one of his most original, versatile, exotic and perfect work in my opinion, one of his 5 best works! I do not get tired of hearing this score!

Yes, the soundtrack which has been available for decades is good. This new thread about it, not so much, hence the teasing.
Et cetera, et cetera. wink

And besides, people are responding less and less on thingies where you have to string a few sentences together.

Just post a photo of what you're going to have for breakfast and I'll click "Like".
