I don’t think I’ve ever made it all the way through that film. I am one of the few admirers of that film, it is indeed an incredibly slow moving film, but I always thought that was somewhat of the point, it is piece of poetry as much as political intrigue and suspense. It is enormously more watchable because of the score, which makes everything look warmer and more enchanting. This film is loaded with great actors, it is also impeccably shot. I was a big fan of John Le Carre, and this film just nailed it. I also adore Jerry's score. I was so glad he had a chance to go full-bore lyrical for once. But I too felt that the album just went on and on, so I dunno about an upgrade. We'll see if it hangs around long enough for me to change my mind. I don’t think I’ve ever made it all the way through that film. I just found & watched the TT Blu in town for....not saying how much.....and the new cues are very good, I'm excited for this! I love the hell out of this score, and like some undisclosed actor I heard about in an interview with Richard Kraft about it, am also sad when it ends. Score is so good I've played it for ever it seems. The unreleased material is excellent, neither reprises of the main theme or wholly, draggy suspense. Thanks Quartet! And I can remember virtually nothing about it, other than it stars Sean Connery, Michelle Pfeiffer and ... ? Oh, and it carries one of my favourite Jerry Goldsmith scores! We've discussed the score before and I know it gets criticised - often - for being too slow/repetitive/boring but, for me, it's (mostly) a lovely melodic work. I'm aware the main theme was written for (but unused) the score for Alien Nation (1988) ... that film's loss was this film's gain. Will I buy this expansion? Probably not straightaway and I enjoy the existing CD album as it stands but if it stays around long enough .. yes! And Ken Russell, of course! Actually, more to the point - Klaus Maria Brandauer, James Fox (in a wonderful performance), Roy Scheider (as the vile American)....and that's without looking it up even. In a nutshell.... and FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! The Russia House is one of those scores that has grown on me over the last 25 years. Then he used it in Alien Nation, then Russia House. I think it was only my 2nd ever CD purchase, I bought it right after the failure whilst still in downtown.
