Quote:

"A New Book Reveals the Original Design for the Mothership in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Author Michael Klastorin gathered lots of illustrations and information to create this beautiful and fascinating book. I recommend expanding all these images to see just how much detail is on display.

Along with concept art, the story behind the design and build of the Mothership is incredible, including the fact that the model team had just about finished building the original design before getting word to start over. “We threw out the giant teepee,” says model maker Greg Jein."

Actually, I have a book from either the late 70s or the early 80s entitled "Close Encounters of the Third Kind: A Document of the Film", and in that book they show several conceptual sketches of the early designs of the mothership! GREAT BOOK! I've read it probably a dozen times!

BTW, Solium....
I have yet to get the book from a friend of mine who ordered it for me... do YOU have it? If so, do they mention if the "cuboids" that were supposed to ferry the mothership over Devils Tower and down to the landing site were filmed at all? I seemed to recall that they filmed some experiments but that it proved to be extremely dangerous because of all the live wires it would entail.

Sorry I don't have the book. I just learned about it's existence today. I also have to look into the book you have.
