I find scores that I really enjoy from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. I like parts of Loony tunes also. For me he was a great composer for all decades.
Don't forget how the movies changed through the decades too. Some of the latter day Goldsmith projects simply couldn't bear the kinds of styles and techniques he'd employed in "the golden years" and that he might otherwise have continued to develop. Producers were paying for stripped down simpler music, albeit with a big sound. They weren't paying for Bartokian extravaganzas. Goldsmith was pro enough to figure this out quick and stay on top.
Goldsmith's best decades remains the Silver Age (1960's and 1970's), from television to feature film. How great was and is Planet of the Apes: a bold score!
