One does begin to wonder if WagnerAlmighty is actually going to purchase CDs prior to the end of the sale, which is a mere four days from now

Or maybe she's having trouble because of the recently announced FSM sale. But never fear, sooner or later she'll come back to all those great Newman titles! Yavar

I'm guessing he's either a Russian AI bot or a disembodied disgruntled lawn care employee No. Yes. Yes. Or maybe she's having trouble because of the recently announced FSM sale. But never fear, sooner or later she'll come back to all those great Newman titles! Yavar I'm dying to grab the Kritzerland stuff today, but I have to wait until the dust settles on one of my other orders to pull the trigger. I'm dying to get the Alfred titles, plus I can see I'll have to get the Bernard Herrmann Jane Eyre and Snows of Kilimanjaro double soon. I have some outstanding Kritzerland Herrmann already with Beneath the 12 Mile Reef. I didn't like the FSM disc of that one, Kritzerland ROCKED it! Then there's David and Bathsheba, unbelievable sound.

Then there's David and Bathsheba, unbelievable sound. Kritzerland derserves all credit for the great sound on D&B, but not Bt12MF -- they got the master from that Herrmann score directly from Varese's epic (but far too limited at only 1000 copies) box set of all Herrmann's work for 20th Century Fox, as you can see from the announcement thread here: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=108916&forumID=1 Now they do certainly deserve credit for reissuing the title as a standalone release for those like me who missed the box...and a few of the other Herrmann titles they re-released from it they did further tweak and improve the sound over what Varese already did, but this wasn't one of them. Bruce or Michael Mattessino would have to chime in with which others they did improve as I don't remember off the top of my head -- they did mention in the announcement threads for each if you search. Of course the biggest upgrade Bruce made on the Varese box was expanding on Hangover Square, which was if I'm not mistaken the only score Varese did not release complete on the box set, for whatever reason. Yavar I first fell in love with the Beneath the 12 Mile Reef score because of the Kritzerland, I really like that one. I have Hangover Square paired with Citizen Kane on the Film Music of BH. Another one I really like!

The original Hangover on Kritzerland is better. Also, FSM did the best they could with the sound on Reef at the time, but it was one of their earliest releases and technology improved later to allow the leap forward on the Varese master. I still cherish my FSM release as it has by far the best liner notes between the three labels. Yavar

I thiiink Alfred might win the day, though. And only a day left!

Alfred should! You're still developing your love of his work. Benny can wait because I think you probably already love him as much as you can. Yavar

Top 5 Alfred Newman on Kritzerland priorities according to my own taste (and omitting the incredible D&B since you have it): 1. The Counterfeit Traitor 2. How Green Was My Valley 3. O. Henry's Full House (with a bonus great score by Mockridge!) 4. Leave Her to Heaven (another improvement over an early FSM Fox title, plus a bonus Newman score!) 5. Fuller at Fox (which has Hell and High Water by Newman, but I'm kinda cheating because this great three for one set also has my single favorite score by Leigh Harline -- composer of When You Wish Upon a Star -- House of Bamboo) But they're seriously all good and must-haves, including the ones I didn't mention. If you check with Bruce maybe he even has more of the "sold out" Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing which you could pick as your bonus title. It's another one like A Certain Smile where Newman had to incorporate a title song he didn't compose, but IMO it's a superior title song and I know you loved A Certain Smile despite that issue. Yavar
