New Year's Day, drinking mimosas and listening to jazz, I have had SyFy's TZ marathon on as background visuals, with the mute button on.

I swear, every time I glance at the TV, I see Jack Klugman.

So I ask: Is Jack Klugman in Every Twilight Zone? Or, like a TZ character, have I entered my own Twilight Zone, in which I see Jack Klugman everywhere?

In Praise of Pip was his most affecting for this then-youngster with A Game of Pool the most fascinating. He gave his all. I look fondly back on this Klugman introduction which would reach its zenith with his Oscar Madison. Years later I would be in the audience when he and Tony Randall did The Sunshine Boys on Broadway. It was the next best thing to seeing them do The Odd Couple on stage which I could only dream of.

I knew he was in at least three (one is an hour episode). Turns out it was four - I thought the Trumpet episode was the same as the Pip episode. Maybe they grouped them together for the marathon, although that's alot of Klugman to throw at an audience. He's alittle too earnest for me

Everybody looked like Jack Klugman back then, and given your drinking and jazzercise and not listening to the voices, you probably just thought you saw him. Maybe it was the episode with Shelley Berman who wishes everyone was him...

His Oscar Madison is one of my top five comedic
Performances of all-time.
But i never considered him a great dramatic actor.

I like him in general but there's always that moment when he leans forward, starts gesturing, talking rapidly with a pleading look on his face, trying to convince the camera of some heartfelt notion. It didnt use to bother me, but now it's like hearing Billy Joel's Piano Man on the radio ("again? I've heard this a million times!").

Klugman’s best episode of Twilight Zone was the one called “Quincy ME” where he plays a character in a a Groundhog-Day scenario - exactly the same story played out over and over again, with different characters but always the exact same outcome.

You clearly weren't drinking enough, because if you were you would have also seen Albert Salmi in every episode. wink

Albert Salmi and Gig "Walking Distance" Young are the two Twilight Zone actors who would later perpetuate a murder-suicide.

Jack Klugman was indeed in every episode of The Twilight Zone. He didn't always appear on camera, but he was there: behind a wall or in a side-room that no one used. Sometimes he'd be just out of shot around that corner or below this window; occasionally driving a truck or car down the highway in the distance.

My Quincy dvds--all eight (or seven) seasons worth--are seething right now!

None at all. I'm a "moral equivalence/relativist" kind of fellow.

Funny thread. Rings true too - I had the same thought about Klugman last week.

Perhaps the ultimate Twilight Zone ep would be the one where Jack Klugman is in EVERYTHING forever. wink
