"The L-Shaped Room" was not scored by John Barry. He only provided a couple of jazz oriented pieces for a nightclub scene, but this was the start of his productive collaboration with director Bryan Forbes.

re: MatineeFinally! I was hoping Shout Factory or a similar outfit would release this film.

Some years back a writer friend and I saw a Q&A screening of Gremlins and Gremlins 2 with Dante in attendance. We in between the films we asked about Matinee, and whether a special edition release could happen. We told him how much we liked the film, and how underrated we thought it was. Dante was very gracious. At the time, he thought there was little chance of a special edition, or even a good no-frills transfer on DVD. This was before outfits like Twilight Time and Shout Factory, when Criterion was pretty much the only non-studio company releasing lovingly restored movies with great supplements on home video.
