If you love THE ORPHANAGE, this sad, bittersweet and lovely score will be right up your street.
Forget the droning rubbish that passes for Horror Film Music coming out of Hollywood these days, this is a score written in ye olde tradition.
VERY Delerue-like (much like THE ORPHANAGE), it's a joy to hear an orchestra playing REAL MUSIC alongside a horror film.
The film seems to have met with a slightly underwhelming opinion, with people comparing it unfavourably to other, more successful Spanish thrillers.
But the music delivers on all fronts. Low-key and disturbing at times. Some ominosity. Sad yet hopeful at others.
Gorgeous Quartet packaging and notes make this a CD to savour.
Highly recommended.

I praised this in the Quartet thread that originally announced it. It's excellent, by and far my favorite score by Fernando Velazquez. The romantic themes are very beautiful and remind me of Georges Delerue, and the horror/action cues are all very interesting and exciting. I look forward to seeing the film at some point just to experience the score with the story and images. Highly recommended.

In some of the orchestration of the gentler cues, it also recalls that 70's rural Goldsmith feel to me.

Track 12 Allie = just gorgeous!

The Maestro has produced another classic score with Marrowbone. I ranked it in my top 20 of 2017. Still awaiting release of The Orphanage on vinyl and of course upcoming scores from the mighty Quartet!

Track 5, Jack = Pure Goldsmith (almost RUDY-like).
Reprised in Track 28, Marrowbone (from 1'25...).

What are the upcoming releases for Mr Velázquez? I seem to be missing a lot of releases recently.

Completely agree.

I purchased the CD not having seen the film, nor having heard any of the music other than the short samples on the Quartet website. I'm a new fan of Velazquez's work and I gambled on my love for his previous work.

The gamble paid off. Such beautifully orchestrated and heartbreaking themes and great horror/tension created in parts. Love it all.

It's always nice to see a composer who is not afraid to deliver traditional melodies in replace of ambient soundscapes.

Agree some lovely themes. I have so far only listened to it on Spotify where I am not so good with removing the tension cues but I am leaning towards buying this digitally (in Lossless) as it is a lovely score and would be a great addition to my library.
