Okay folks, sock it to me! I'd LOVE to hear any and all input on this score, as well as Thriller and Gathering of Eagles.

From what I've heard of Lionheart it's a bit of a different beast from the Rambo trilogy, and seems to have a lot of admiration from all circles.

I stumbled on a super deal for Thriller, so I have to decide between that and Gathering of Eagles.

Everyone's help is HUGELY appreciated here, FSM RULES! smile smile smile

Lionheart is a truly great score let down a bit by a somewhat disappointing orchestral performance, which Jerry tried to smooth over by writing some synth lines above it. I still find it acceptable and really enjoy listening to the score often.

What release did you get? To have the complete score you will need to buy "Volume 2" in addition to either the first volume or the hour long release. Hopefully some day Varese will issue a complete Deluxe Edition with everything remastered and in film order...

Lionheart is wonderful, one of my favorite scores from any composer. Big, rich romantic themes. There've been complaints over the years regarding the orchestra's performance, and Goldsmith added some electronic accents to cover up some of the shakier sections - but overall it sounds fine to me ( although a Tadlow complete rerecording would be a treat ).

Did you order the two standalone volumes, or the condensed single CD version? The two individual discs are the way to go, to get all of the released score.

Good score. Always loved that little video snippet of Jerry recording the synths. I think it was on the Carlin Documentary.

Is the score really completely complete? If yes, why do you know it's absolutely complete?

Re: Thriller -- the Tadlow album is wonderful and I can't wait for Volume 2 this year!

That said with Varese (permanently?) discounting A Gathering of Eagles to only $11, I would expect that one to sell out and become unavailable sooner, so you might want to prioritize it. What kind of deal is it on Thriller?

I got the single disc, I was warned away by Vol 2 awhile ago (can't remember why).

Sooo....Gathering of Eagles, Total Recall (Deluxe/Varese)? Choices, choices.

Just over 16 US new. Gathering is less expensive. But then there's Total Recall which is even less expensive for the Varese/Deluxe.

Oh and btw, I'll be writing you about Red Pony and Family Plot, which are already beloved in this household.

WagnerAlmighty, how many hours are there in a day where you live? How can you possibly have time to listen to all these CDs you're suddenly buying?

The recent Quartet edition of Total Recall is better than the Varese DE, just FYI.

I'm so glad you ended up liking Family Plot after all! It's one of my top three Williams scores. I just adore it (and I find the film a lot of fun and pretty underrated, too...)

I make money composing, arranging, and orchestrating. So all day is music, from when I get up to when I go to bed. I watch movies sometimes, but mostly I'm either listening to music casually or attentively (the latter usually means with the headphones on) when I'm not composing.

I write approximately six hours minimum a day, listen to music about four. Besides that I take walks, read (oops, actually I do that a lot when listening to music lol!).

I am very lucky to live this way, though I'm not exactly rich.

WA, I invite you to post some examples of your work. There is currently a thread on the other side where a bunch of our other resident music people offer samplings of what they've done and the stuff on display is gangbusters.
Or you could just create a thread to spotlight your own stuff.
Either way you choose to do it, the contribution adds to the creative substance of this board tremendously.

Quartet Total Recall. No question about it. As a musician, you’d find it interesting as it contains a cue from the first sessions before he switched orchestras. It also sounds incredible and is totally complete, including the great source cues and TV jingles.

If it is true that Goldsmith added synth to simply disguise a bad orchestral performance... should a re-recording feature just an unblemished orchestral performance, without the synth? Or will pro-synth listeners want the synth parts included even though the reason for their presence no longer exists?

Is the score really completely complete? If yes, why do you know it's absolutely complete?

There might be short, transitional cues left out but the film is only 104 minutes long so I can't imagine there's anything of significance unreleased.

This rerecording that will never happen should recreate whatever Goldsmith's original intent was. I look forward to hearing it, despite it having zero chance of ever existing.

You mean like the transition in the Total Recall end credits cue? Is there a cue sheet or something like this?

This might be the first complete score of all time, doesn't it?

Nice score, (I got the Varese single album) but man.. the movie sucked. I re-watched it recently to be sure... and it remains bad.
