I missed out on the Varese Sarabande release of the score from the original 1984 Ghostbusters movie. Released on CD for the first time ever as a limited Edition of just 3000 units back in 2006.

Will this ever get a re-release any time again soon do you think? All that's currently available is the Ghostbusters Soundtrack which is just the songs. It would be great to have a double CD of the songs on one CD and the complete score another.

I've seen one factory sealed copy available on Ebay but he's asking 75 pounds (approx $106.00). Too much for me.

For some reason the rights holders are apparently not interested. La La Land Records tried and tried to get it, but last year or the year before they said they couldn't.

I heard that someone on the productions convinced Sony to keep the rights in-house instead of licensing them out, so I'm holding out hope for some good news next year for the 35th/30th anniversaries.

From what I recall *someone* was Randy Edelman, regarding the release of his score to GB II, and that the company that currently holding the cards is Madison Gate Records. I've written them and they responded:

Dear Ryan,

Thank you for your inquiry. We do not currently have release dates for these titles, but when/if we do in the future, we’ll be sure to post. Thanks so much for your interest.

Sincerely,

Jaime Cyr, VP Strategic Planning

AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS - it's a bootleg, and exceptional one at that. Tracks WE GOT ONE and CROSS RIP, are mis-spelled on this one as WE GET ONE!, and GROSS RIP.

If some label does get the rights from the Gatekeeper and it's announced it's a new mastering and this time complete, I'll sell my copy in advance. Just sayin'.

16 Sold - more than 10 available. Sounds dodgy to me.

Sony's at least thinking a little bit about this anniversary: it's received the "live score with picture" treatment. It was just announced for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for this coming December.

Had this experience before with Ghostbusters, Transformers and Black Beauty. A seller magically stumbles across several copies of an out of print score that happens to seller for a lot on the secondary market. The seller decides to be a good Samaritan and offers to sell the score at a decent price. In the latter two cases I got my money back and in fact I think the seller of Ghostbusters in this case sold me Transformers.

There was a discussion about this ghostbuster cd seller in the trading post which I cannot find now. weird.

It does seem very strange and uncanny though that he has been selling a select few rare cds in quantities since December. (see sellers closed auctions)

I have the Varese release of this score, and I've always been disappointed with the sound quality to be honest. Sure it doesn't sound miserable like the bootlegs but I know it could sound far better. I point to Poltergeist II, which was another release that suffered on Varese, but it sounded great on the later releases by Kritzerland and Intrada.

What I'm getting at is, I would be happy to part ways with it if there was a better release down the road. Then again, you would likely not need it then as you would purchase that instead as I would. razz

Yes, here is the original quote:

Ghostbusters and GB2 were supposed to come out on Madison Gate during Sony's obsession with all things Ghostbusters. Initially we were going to do GB2, then in his excitement Mr Edelman spoke with a top exec at Sony who put the kibosh on LLL doing the project stating all things GB should be kept in house. Things might be different now. We'll see.
