MONDAY, FEBRUARY 19

BLADE RUNNER 2049---Rutger Hauer commented on the sequel, "...It looks great but I struggle to see what that film was necessary. I just think if something is so beautiful, you should just leave it alone and make another film. Don’t lean with one elbow on the success of that was earned over 30 years in the underground."
He added, "In many ways, BLADE RUNNER wasn’t about the replicants, it was about what does it mean to be human? It’s like E.T.. But I’m not certain what the question was in the second BLADE RUNNER. It’s not a character-driven movie and there’s no humor, there’s no love, there’s no soul. You can see the homage to the original. But that’s not enough to me. I knew that wasn’t going to work. But I think it’s not important what I think."

CREED II---Sylvester Stallone posted artwork for the sequel showing Dolph Lundgren, Florian Munteanu, Michael B. Jordan and Stallone.

JAMES BOND---Christopher Nolan (DUNKIRK) said he will not direct the 25th James Bond movie, but he might direct a future sequel, “I won’t be the man. No, categorically. I think every time they hire a new director I’m rumored to be doing it. I’d love to make a Bond film at some point and I think those producers – Barbara and Michael – they do a tremendous job and Sam Mendes has done a terrific job the last couple of films, so they don’t particularly need me. But I’ve always been inspired by the films and would love to do one someday."

CALL OF DUTY---director Stefano Sollima (SICARIO 2: SOLDADO), who is in negotiations to direct the movie based on the video game, may have hinted he wants Tom Hardy and Chris Pine to star in the movie. He said about Hardy, "...I like almost everything [he’s been in]. I’m waiting for his VENOM. Even in MAD MAX, he was great." He said about Pine, "He’s tough, but he’s smart and he can have a sense of humor but he can [also] be in such a dramatic role. I like when you feel that an actor can play with different nuances and tone because this means they’re a good actor."

EMMANUELLE---Sylvia Hoeks (BLADE RUNNER 2049) will starred in the untitled biomovie about Sylvia Kristel who starred in the 1974 French soft-porn movie EMMANUELLE.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---ILM VFX Supervisor Mike Mulholland said Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter had to be changed for the movie because Hasbro made a mistake on its toy model, “Initially, the plan was to have missiles on the underside, and shoot them off, and that was it. But halfway through production Rian [Johnson] got a toy, a prototype toy of the Kylo fighter. And they had the missiles on the side wings! So we went and redesigned a bit of it [in the movie] so that we could open it up and pop them out. I’ve heard of the toys’ influence in the past, but that was the first time for me.”

GAME OF THRONES---fans voted the "Beyond the Wall" episode as the worst "moment" of Season 7.

BOSS LEVEL---Frank Grillo and Mel Gibson star in this sci fi movie about an ex-Special Forces soldier who must endlessly repeat the cycle of events in which he dies until he stops the perpetrators behind it. Joe Carnahan (THE GREY) is the writer/director.

CLOVERFIELD PARADOX---the Netflix sci fi movie, which is part of the JJ Abrams Cloverfield franchise, drew only 2.8 million viewers in three days compared to BRIGHT with 11 million viewers in three days.

THE LAST THING HE WANTED---Anne Hathaway is in negotiations to star in the movie based on the Joan Didion novel about the Iran Contra scandal.

TRIVIA---in THE RIGHT STUFF, famed test pilot Chuck Yeager, who was a central figure in the movie, had a cameo as the bartender.

John Glenn's wife, Annie, was played by Mary Jo Deschanel. She is married to THE RIGHT STUFF cinematographer Caleb Deschanel (THE NATURAL, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST), and is the mother of Emily Deschanel (BONES) and Zooey Deschanel (NEW GIRL). She played astronaut Dave Bowman's wife in 2010: THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT.

NFL Hall of Fame tackle Anthony Munoz had a cameo as hospital orderly Gonzalez.

The weird Nurse Murch was played by Jane Dornacker, a former rock singer and stand-up comic. She was a traffic reporter for WNBC-AM and was killed when her helicopter crashed in the Hudson River in 1986.

That call of duty item, director Stefano Sollima is the son of famous italian western director Sergio Sollima (Big gundown, face to face, Run man run, and thrillers Revolver and Violent city). Hes 51 but he has already directed Romanze criminale and Gomorra.- two of italian tv's best criminal dramas/thrillers in the last ten years. Very talented man.

I remember critic Gene Siskel reviewing this film and saying how turned on he got while watching it. Ewwwww.

Does that mean the scariest moment? Dragging the dead dragon out was disturbing. I finished watching season 7 last night, I love this show, it's EPIC, & obviously costs a fortune to make, makes me wonder if they'll ever be a TV show as big as this again. Looking forward to the conclusion, actually I think the army of the dead is the least interesting plotline, as they only need to kill the handful of White Walkers to take care of the army (but it will make for some epic scenes).

The big question. Will Sansa Stark ever get her kit off? ...I'll get my coat.

The worst moments for Season 7 for me was how the show portrays straight relationships as a beautiful thing worth deviting lots of screen time towards while gay relationships are just a joke.

Incredibly, I remember that too (but at that age, anything related to "that" topic left an impression). wink

DIRTY DANCING 2? ACE VENTURA 2? THE TWO JAKES? Of course there are many unnecessary sequels, but there is enough great stuff to enjoy in BLADE RUNNER 2049 to call it worthwhile.

John Barry left THE RIGHT STUFF after a meeting with Phillip Kaufman who told Barry his ideal score was, "sounding like you're walking in the desert and you see a cactus, and you put your foot on it, but it just starts growing up through your foot."

Yeah, I remember hearing him in a radio interview telling that story, he was a Yorkshireman, that must have sounded like a load of cobblers to him. In the same interview he talked about working on a Barbra Streisand film where she kept interfering, she told him how much she loved his film scores, & he said, yes, & I did them all without your help. He left the film.

Actually, that's kinda why I posted it, hoped someone would take the bait. Glad you did. (Really do love the quote - nice bit of self-deprecation that my ego can stand!)
