LOST IN SPACE---trailer released for the Netflix remake series starring Toby Stephens, Molly Parker and Parker Posey.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5X3vC-XsU0

NO BETTER PLACE TO DIE---Tom Hanks is the star/executive producer of this D-Day movie based on the true story of 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers defending the key La Fiere bridge which was portrayed in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Dale Dye, the military adviser on SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, is the writer/director.

JAMES BOND---Danny Boyle (28 DAYS LATER, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) is the top candidate to direct the 25th James Bond movie after Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve said they were not interested at this time.

TERMINATOR 6---casting call for an hispanic female, Dani Ramos, is seen as the main character that will be the basis for future sequels and allow a satisfying conclusion to the characters played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.

"Dani Ramos is a young woman in her early 20s from Mexico City. She was brought up in a working-class neighborhood, is independent and believes strongly in family. She’s more street-smart than book smart and is a woman who always manages to find a ray of light even in the darkest of circumstances."

MAGNUM, PI---Jay Hernandez (SUICIDE SQUAD) will play the title role in the CBS reboot pilot based on the Tom Selleck series that ran from 1980-1988.

THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE---photo released from the Terry Gilliam movie starring Jonathan Pryce and Adam Driver in which an old man thinks he is Don Quixote and an ad executive is Sancho Panza.

THE WALKING DEAD---Norman Reedus commented on Season 8, “It’s all resolution. It’s all the tying up of these ends of what’s laid out in front of us in all these different directions. There’s a lot of closure coming in the back eight, which is great. There’s been all this action and all the fighting and all these different factions that have been splitting off in these different directions, and it all kind of comes together in the end with closure in several different avenues. Some wrap up the way you think. Some wrap up not the way you think.”
Also, Lauren Cohan is in negotiations for a big raise in order to return for Season 9. Cohan just signed to co-star with Scott Foley in WHISKEY CAVALIER, an ABC pilot about a tough FBI agent and a tough female CIA agent who team up to save the world.

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL---Walton Goggins (JUSTIFIED) will star in the CBS pilot based on the James Ellroy novel and 1997 movie that starred Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger.

PINOCCHIO---Paul King (PADDINGTON 2) will direct the Walt Disney Pictures live-action remake of its classic 1940 animated movie.

MARVEL STUDIOS---Ruth Wilson (LUTHER) said she turned down a role in a secret Marvel project," I did have an interview for a Marvel thing ages ago. They wouldn’t say what the part was, so I made a questionnaire for the two directors. ‘Is she a baddie?’ They said she was a bit of both. ‘Does she wear leather or latex?’ They said no. I was like, [buzzer sound] ‘EER-EEER! I said, ‘How many days filming is it?’ They said 14. I said, ’14? That’s not very long … EER-EEER!’ So I said no.---"

DEVS--Alex Garland (EX MACHINA, ANNIHILATION) talked about his new FX sci fi sereies, “It’s about a particular aspect of technology at the moment which is to do with very, very big data and very powerful processing power, and what can happen when you put those two things together. It’s set in San Francisco, a sort of tech story.”

CONSIDER PHLEBAS---Amazon Prime Video series underway based on the first of the sci fi novel series.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS---Chris McKay (THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE) is in talks to direct the Paramount Pictures movie based on the game.

THE BIG BANG THEORY---Bill Gates will guest star in Season 11.

TRIVIA---NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN was Sean Connery's last James Bond movie. It was a remake of THUNDERBALL and not an official Bond movie from Eon Productions. Instead, it was developed by Jack Schwartzman, who was married to Talia Shire (ROCKY). Her brother, Francis Ford Coppola, supposedly contributed to the NSNA script.
The movie's title was from Connery's wife, Micheline, who told Connery, "Never say never again", after he vowed DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER was his very last Bond movie.

NSNA was directed by Irvin Kershner who also directed THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and had directed Connery in A FINE MADNESS.

Klaus Maria Brandauer played Bond Villain Maximillian Largo. Brandauer was replaced by Sean Connery in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. They starred together in THE RUSSIA HOUSE.

Bond blinds Lippe, the SPECTRE assassin, by throwing a urine specimen in his face and discovers the specimen is actually Bond's. Lippe was played by Pat Roach who also played the Nazi Flying Wing mechanic who battles Indiana Jones in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.

Captain Jack Petachi, the US Air Force officer who is seduced by Fatima Blush to join the SPECTRE plot, is played by Gavan O'Herlihy, who was the original Chuck Cunningham on HAPPY DAYS.

The NSNA title theme was recorded by Herb Alpert and his wife, Lani Hall. Alpert is the only artist to record both unofficial James Bond themes, the original CASINO ROYALE and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.

The underwater scenes were directed by Ricou Browning, who also directed the underwater scenes for THUNDERBALL and other movies. Browning's first movie role was The Creature in the underwater scenes in THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

What happened to the Eva Longoria-as-Magnum's daughter TV series idea? wink

I'm sure this Hernandez fellow will be just swell as Magnum, but for me, Tom Selleck IS Thomas Magnum just as James Garner IS Jim Rockford, Jack Lord IS Steve McGarrett, and Mike Connors IS Joe Mannix.

...but I'm just an old reactionary...

A Danny Boyle directed Bond film would be incredibly interesting.

Tom Selleck was 35 when he started playing Magnum, this new guy is 40. Why not get someone younger and more in the Tom Selleck mold?

Why reboot it at all? Especially with a guy who looks like another bland and generic modern television lead. No screen presence.

I'll give him this: the hair is different.

Here's an idea I proposed for a continuation, at another website:
Now that the actor who played the unforgettable Higgins, is dead, that's a big loss.

So, what to do?

While there have been contradictions, maybe it's possible all this time Higgins was Mr. Masters and Magnum finally finds out for a fact when Higgins passes and leaves the Masters estate to Thomas, being that Thomas was the nearest thing to a friend in the end.

For royalty checks sake, Thomas keeps the secret safe and stays on grounds. He retires from private detective work.

His daughter comes to live with him. She befriends Rick's child (my idea, since he didn't have one in the series, he only got married) -- male or female. Maybe T.C. has one, I don't know.

She falls into private detective work, much to Thomas' dismay. Rick's kid, to get some stability in his life, takes after Magnum and joins the military state side.

So, that's two new character, Thomas would be the new Higgins, and Rick and T.C. can make appearances as regulars to help guide the youth with life experience.

Plus, Mike Post is still alive and scoring, so bonus super karate monkey death points if he can be brought aboard. None of theses shitty modern TV composers. No re-working of the theme into ten seconds of modern dog crap.

Just ideas off the top of my head.

No thanks, JB. I'll stick to the original MPI series in all its poor-quality DVD glory (and sadly minus the commercial bumpers).

Leading actors are to young nowadays. Have been since Tom Cruise came onto the scene in the early/mid 80's. I just don't find them credible as leading men.
