I had an idea -- a catch-all thread where people can suggest titles to Varese and the label can keep track of suggestions.

If you agree with a user's suggestion, make sure you type out and post that so Varese can see it.

Octoberman suggested we not use this thread to blather on about whether something is possible or not. I won't quite go that far, but I ask contributors to the thread to:
  • Keep in mind the titles Varese holds in perpetuity:
    http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=86092&archive=0
  • And if you can link to or copy & page a reply from somebody in the know -- like MV Gerhard -- where he says this and that title are not possible so people don't get their hopes up high.
  • You are somebody in the know and want to clear something up.

I'll start off with one suggestion, since they are doing "21 Jump Street" by Peter Bernstein:

    "Island City" (Peter Bernstein)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpxVebNr9xY

A good score to a crappy pilot for a potential series that thankfully did not get picked up.

Justin, thanks for starting the thread. Surprised that there wasn't one before.

While it has been released twice before? Rózsa's Eye of the Needle should certainly be considered. There are at least three posters here (including myself) who are seeking a copy.

    Edit: Now four.

    Also The Eiger Sanction (Williams).

    Excellent idea.
Justin, if I may, I suggest editing in something to your original post; something along the lines that it is not neccesary or required for just any punter to come into the thread with some blather about why this or that release is not possible--that it is a list purely for the ACTUAL label people to peruse and consider.

    Brainstorm.

    Duh.

They've heard that and the oft-repeated Goldsmith titles for years now.

    I've got an idea.
Try not to pick titles that Varese don't own.
Old MCA LP titles like EIGER SANCTON, MACARTHUR, DRACULA and MASADA for instance.

Yes. In the other thread posted by Justin, SchiffyM states:

"Bear in mind that during the early '90s, Varese licensed many MCA LPs and premiered them on CD: "Psycho II," "Masada," "Explorers," "Dracula," "The Eiger Sanction," "Ghost Story," "Conan the Barbarian," "Conan the Destroyer," and many others. Eventually, this license expired, and these CDs became rare. But Varese does not own these in perpetuity, as evidenced by the "Explorers" CD from Intrada, the upcoming "Conans," and "Masada" (granted, a different recording, but in some cases those rights are tied up together regardless)."

I just want an 80min CD of The Mutant saying "Predator 2 Complete!" and I'll die a happy man.

    YOUNG GUNS - UNUSED SCORE

The Hand: Horner never wanted it released and neither did Warner Bros. It would've been from Intrada.

Romeo and Juliet: Sony Classical had an album made that was canceled, didn't they?

The Visitor: You and I are the only ones banging the drum for this nugget of David Arnold brilliance and beauty, which is firmly LLL territory and they've never once replied to any posts about it, not even saying 'no' or 'not interested / possible'.

Young Guns: That one's anyone's guess as to if it still even exists.

Yes, second vote for this one. Hugely underrated scores with a ton of heart and loaded with great themes.

I'll also cast a vote for Loek Dikker's amazing thriller score for the FOURTH MAN, also in complete form (the album had a lot of problematic edits and omitted a ton of the more tender emotional material).

I am not sure about Warner Bros. For sure Horner was the one who didn't want it released. But the same was Goldsmith's case with eg The Vanishing and yet it still got released. So only a matter of time until someone picks The Hand and releases it...

Young Guns I believe is the same case and Intrada was about to do it, but Horner asked them not to.
