If you aren't familiar with Pascal Gaigne I suggest checking out his score to Los Manos de Mi Madre and Solisterrae both released from Quartet. They are two of my favorites and some of the most beautiful music in my library. I got a massage to both of them separate times and they work wonderfully for that.
Gaigne is great. I have lots of his scores. I recommend the RETROSPECTIVE compilation as a starter.
Yes, I've heard of him, his work, Gaigne scores 1st established Quartet's catalogue.
Composers I've never heard of are.
Smitty McKeon Kieboom Borras Aaitio
Can't say I've read any think on this board or any other site about these composers, I will check them scores their could be some think surprising in there.
Not familiar with Smitty or Borras, but McKeon has done a couple of really great scores. I particularly recommend ABSOLUTION. Kieboom, I know somewhat personally (as I've met him in Ghent a few times), but I've yet to explore his music much. Aaltio is one of the foremost Finnish composers at the moment (who I met in Berlin just a couple of weeks ago). His TALE OF A LAKE and TALE OF A FOREST scores are absolutely stunning, and a MUST-HAVE to fans of lush, orchestral writing. I'm not particularly impressed with this one, though (SUPER FURBALL).
I was not impressed on my first couple of listens on Spotify to the same level I was with Take of a Lake and Forest. Though perhaps I will revisit it later and change my mind.
As for others on this set, I have been exploring the Gaigne, Errementari, and so far I think it is a nice mix of traditional horror with hints of action horror and some solid choral work that is reminiscent of Dante's Inferno video game score. I may end up purchasing the score shortly (been sampling on Spotify)
