I'll try "Dinotopia" again, but I found it rather bland and suffering from temp track-itus.
I doubt anybody would agree with me, but I found "Loch Ness" way more enjoyable and engaging. I'm not saying it doesn't have temp track-itus, too, but I didn't recognize anything in this score.

You need to listen again. JNH's wonderful "railroad theme" from WYATT EARP makes a prominent cameo in LOCH NESS!
Aside from bagpipes in some cues, I don't hear any similarity between The Mighty and Braveheart...and I love both.
Yavar
I skimmed through it just now and there's a little nod (IMO) to the "Sons of Scotland" motif at the very beginning of "Free to Fly" but yeah it's not pervasive in the score and I don't know why I'd hung my hat on that for so long. Looking forward to giving this a fuller listen soon.
Until then, I always point to LAWN DOGS as Jones's great unheralded score:
I've now got The Mighty on order. I rather like For Roseanna (aka Roseanna's Grave), quite a nice pastoral one. Let's raise a glass to Mr Jones as it's his birthday today :-)
Listened to The last of the Mohicans last night, Jones wrote a great score, would love to hear it in full unless the first 9 tracks represent his whole contribution? Sadly, Edelman's contributions to the score paled in comparison to Jones'.

Perhaps, but they're still good in their own right.
I miss Jones too. I'm sure he's having a ball lecturing in South Africa, but I'd love to see him back on the film scoring scene.
We watched Angel Heart again last night and was reminded how much I enjoyed that score and how the album botched the job with dialogue on most every track. I doubt it'll ever get any kind of expanded release, and a lot of the score is low bubbling synths, but there's a lot to love in the more atmospheric tracks.
it'd make a great 2 disc set with his Sea Of Love score.
Yes much underrated composer. I met him at the film music meet up event at Angel studios in 2016. Very nice man. Last Of The Mohicans is a classic score but I also particularly like From Hell, Thirteen Days, Cleopatra and The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. A pity he seems to have wound down from scoring.
