I cannot see the thread for this.

http://filmmusicreporter.com/2018/03/29/henry-jackman-to-score-shane-blacks-the-predator/

Read it and weep I guess.

No weeping here. I wish Silvestri was back but I am a Jackman fan. At least Balfe didn’t get it.

Jackman is a very interesting composer. He's been able to produce some thrilling thematic scores like Kick Ass. I found his string theme in Skull Island to be quite haunting and a beautiful ode to Mahler's slow movements from his symphonies. Then there's the Jackman that produces Jack Reacher 2 and things of that nature which I'm less captivated by.

I hope he's allowed to run with this. If so I think he'll come up with something great.

I was hoping if not Silvestri then Debney. Predators had some great moments and used loads of Silvestri, too, in interesting variations.

Hope Jackman knocks this one for six. Looking forward to listening to it. I do hope he leans heavily on Silvestri's themes too, like Debney did, while creating some great stuff himself.

What a shame. Apparently he holds Silvestri's score for the second film in very high esteem, so maybe that will spur him to write something decent (if nowhere near that level). I doubt it, though.

I love the first two Predator scores, but Debney's entry unfortunately I do not. I just cannot enjoy it, and I've tried.

The whole thing gives me a headache, and it's not really even Debney's fault. The mix, and dynamic compression of Predators is atrocious. Going backwards and forwards between how it sounds, to how Silvestri's scores sounded just hammers home the "LOUDNESS WARS" with perfect precision.

Predator and Predator 2 are gloriously loud, Predators is just........ LOUD. I barely can even listen to it nowadays.

I personally have no problem with Jackman doing the reboot either, I like quite a few of his works, and I enjoyed his Jumanji more than I have a bunch of Silvestri's latter action scores (Night At The Museum trilogy), and I adore Silvestri, which speaks volumes.

I for one will error on the side of caution for Jackman.

I too like Silvestri's first two Predator scores as well as Debney's Predators.

The only good Jackman score to date was Puss In Boots, and James Horner deserved a "themes by" credit for all of the cribbing from his Zorro scores.

I actually think, with a bit of effort, he could progress the way John Powell did, after he left the Zimmer factory.
There's been some real promise in recent scores like TURBO, WRECK IT RALPH, KONG SKULL ISLAND & JUMANJI and some of his earlier efforts were cool, before someone told him (did I read this here?) not to waste so much time and effort on composition and orchestration!!

Debney would have been great. Anyway, Jackman is quite talented, i envision something the likes of his Capt Phillips. If he has gotten Black's blessing, im cool with that.

jjluffy's long 'no' fucked it up.

Looking forward to what Jackman can come up with. He's a hugely talented composer.

Part of my problem with this news is the unassailable fact that, with the hundreds - if not thousands - of composers working today, studio execs just cycle through the same couple dozen guys for all these big movies...and (once again) it's not even the more interesting end of the spectrum these guys are picking from.

People tend to whine about him in spite of his great talent, but just imagine a Michael Giacchino Predator score.

Or Carter Burwell. Predator scores thrive on percussion. Listen to The Jackal, Conspiracy Theory and Burn After Reading and the way he made the percussion section his bitch. Can't you picture that kind of passion for a movie like this?

And what of John Ottman? Having scored two previous Black movies, one's mind is drawn to him.

Of course, I'm seeing the movie, but I can't help but let out a huge sigh at the awesome score that could've been.
