I'd bet a crisp $2 bill this was a movie made by committee from soup to nuts. I'd bet LG was simply following orders.

I have no doubt this is true, but that doesn't make the music any less unlistenable, sadly!

Well, I think it's a very good score. So there.

What's a track I can check out to change my mind?

I can't remember the last post I read by Lehah that DIDN'T include some pithy putdown or mocking indignation against the world, worn like some superiority blanket, over his sullen, miserable self.
Such negativity can't be good for ones soul.

... Soul?

I'm looking forward to this film. I really like Tom Hardy ever since FURY ROAD. I'm not a fan of Ludwig Goransson, but will give the score a chance.smile

So I saw this today and whilst the film is a mess, constantly shifting between ridiculously cool and fun to terribly absurd and just plain bad, I loved the score.

I honestly don't understand the negativity some are having towards it, and it is some because everybody I've come across and mentioned the score thought it was a highlight.

I even thought the synths and metal elements were cool and fit perfectly in with the orchestra and sound and style of the score. Goransson knows how to do this stuff and I also loved the hip-hop parts of Black Panther and the more modern style of that score as well. I got a kick out of hearing that synth effect that prominently featured throughout Zimmer's Man of Steel score being reused again.

No real complaints about the music. It was mixed well in the final film, and the only real fault I can say is it's just a shame it didn't play alongside a far superior film.

This was (along with many others) one of my favorite cues:

I just saw the movie and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was a lot funnier than I expected it to be and I thought Hardy was great. If it had a lesser actor in the role, it probably would have fallen apart but he totally carried it.

Didn’t really notice the score too much but I also didn’t dislike it. I’ll have to see the movie again and check out the iTunes samples.

Tough crowd around here! Maybe I’m easy to please but I would definitely recommend it. Definitely the weirdest, funniest “superhero” movie in a while.
I think it’s strength is that it doesn’t take itself seriously at all, and that works for it.

Saw film yesterday. First half was little dull and long, but after appearance of Venom in second half tempo changed and everything ended so quickly in tour de force action.
Fights, chases & CGI were great and no one is expecting something like deep character developmnet / interactions in this "funny" movies. Tom Hardy´s " I am scared" scene was so out of place and hilarious...smile
I went there to see some interesting action and I got it.
I was glad that I saw this movie, money well spent.

Music was heavily inspired by Don Davis / Juno Reactor especially during bike chase scene.
I really get that Mona Lisa Overdrive feel and it reminds me that I must ordered those two expanded Matrix 2CD beauties from LLL.
There is also that BWAAAAH Zimmerian sound but where it isn´t.
Overall good score with some more adventurous brass orchestration and little bit of choir.
Soundtrack from Venom ordered, money well spent.

Spot-on observation! My favorite moment from the score may be the brass bits in "Pedal to the Medal" at 3:03

It's grew up upon several listens.

There is such interesting and cool creation of soundscapes (Goransson is creating something wicked more than the typical superhero score) and the mix with that Don Davis brassy action (Venom Rampage, for example) with that heavy metal guitar style is a very awesome aspect.

Exactly! I heard The Matrix all over Venom. How can anybody call this score bad or the worst Ludwig has done, when amongst things it was inspired by Don Davis’ amazing music?

Is it anybody in their 20s?? Is what I should be asking. I bet not.

I had a great time watching Venom - Hardy was great.

I read a one line review somewhere that said this movie feels like it was made in 2004, and that it's been locked up since then and is now just seeing the light of day. I think that's it exactly. That's what it felt like.

The whole dynamic between Hardy and Venom is worth the price of admission alone. The score serviced the film, and I did enjoy some of the brassy moment too. I agree with Kylo here that Venom Rampage is one of the better tracks.

If you can see it on cheap night - it's a good time.

The action scoring also reminds me a bit of Christopher Young's approach for GHOST RIDER, which is certainly not a bad thing! I just think this score isn't for everyone, and that's ok.

I didn't and no the Matrix is not all over Venom. Of the three Matrix scores the closest comparison to Venom is the Matrix Reloaded and when I mean the closets comparison I'm talking about the use of electronics. Davis managed to work with other artists to achieve the right blend or orchestra and electronics, thus making the interplay between the two seamless and therefore making the Matrix Reloaded a highly enjoyable listening experience as demonstrated in the 3 examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxu6iF9Uaso

Göransson on the other hand failed to achieve a similar balance with a different and harsher sounding electronic samples and that's one of the reasons why I disliked it.

I was referring to The Matrix soundscape as a whole as I rarely refer to them film by film, especially as the sequels were both terrible. I try to forget everything about them, outside of Davis' music.

I still stand by what I said though, I wasn't talking in absolutes even if that's what I brought across.

Venom (the film) is a masterpiece compared to The Matrix sequels. It honestly hurts me to say that also.

At least Venom through all its shoddy editing and tonal inconsistencies was still able to make sense on a basic level and didn't pound you over the head with terrible philosophical ideas and kindergarten level psychology.

VENOM has one of the few superhero scores that stands out, if only because the horn blasts are heard over the general din of the movie.

My review of this (which surprised even myself, given what I expected to make of the score given all the comments - and indeed my own first impression):

Finally received my copy from Amazon and I’m enjoying it! The main Venom theme is pretty cool and gets a real workout in “Venom Rampage” and “Battle on the Launch Pad. I hope they keep that composer for the sequel. Would be a shame to waste that theme.
