While I respect the talent of Jerry Goldsmith, I must say that this thread is ridiculous. John Williams' score for E.T. is one of THE greatest scores ever written for a film.

How is it ridiculous? No one said, Williams score wasn't great. No one said, Jerry would've done a better job, or worse job for that matter. It's a hypothetical question up for debate and fun speculation. In other words, lighten up Francis.
I'm actually surprised Jerry didn't score Starman. He always seemed to be stuck with the films which spun off the popularity of a Williams' scored effort.

Amen.

I have absolutely zero recollection starting this thread. How was this obscure little thread even found? Fun reading it over again. Thanks for the memories.
Kick the Can and Explorers sound like the most right answers to me, with a fair amount of the It's a Good Life music used for the beginning, when things are still a little tense. Raggedy Man could play in as well. I have to believe that sometimes the movie evoked the music, and sometimes the music was swimming around deep under, waiting to be needed, so some of these answers may've even been exactly right, were it so.
