Graphic designer quibble: On the beautiful Extended Edition DVD packaging the color schemes for the three films were green (FOTR), red, (TTT), and blue (ROTK). With the Complete Recordings they reassigned the colors to red (FOTR), blue (TTT), and green (ROTK).
If you saw the fantastic EE DVDs on the shelf every day like me it slightly trips me up to see the colors reassigned like this. It's probably a moot point these days thanks to the uniform gold blu-ray set packaging, but for those of you back in the early 2000s who picked up the EE DVDs each year does it feel like the wrong color?
That said, I'm thrilled to finally have the FOTR:CR set on my shelf!

There was an explanation for this at some point… the deluxe editions of the original soundtracks followed a specific color scheme that was apparently changed between the theatrical release of The Fellowship of the Ring and that of the EE on DVD. As the CD for FOTR had already come out after the decision was changed, the soundtrack albums ended up getting released as originally planned. The CRs follow the colors used for the original soundtracks.

Yes, I did notice the change of colors from DVD to CD sets.
A similar thing happened with the Star Trek - The Original Series DVD sets. The first sets of DVD seasons for Trek had those plastic clamshell cases with these colors...
Season 1 - Yellow Season 2 - Blue Season 3 - Red
The La-La Land 15-CD soundtrack collection switched colors for seasons 2 and 3...
Season 1 - Yellow Season 2 - Red Season 3 - Blue
I have no use for these plastic DVD cases but I can't bring myself to throw them away!
Does anyone know how we can obtain a matching numbered set of the Two Towers on vinyl? It would be really cool to have a complete set of the exact same numbered editions. Thanks for your help!
It's another "issue" with scratched discs made in Mexico i discovered this month. Previous one was about The Mummy (Intrada release).
So what the hell is going on with these factories???! We pay a lot of money to get $h!t like this?! Already dameged?!!
Unbelievable!
Same happened to me with this set. I returned it and got a new one. Mine was the bluray disc which is the reason I,m buying this set again. Anyway.. it came fine the second time, but yeah.. how could it be that scratched ?
I wont be a fool this time. I'll wait until the price drops.. as it happened just weeks after FOTR got released.
Yes, best to hold off on getting these. I'm sure they will be around forever and won't mysteriously go indefinitely out-of-stock overnight leading to astronomical prices on the secondary market.
