I received my boxed set of Season One of The Outer Limits some time ago. Only last evening did I finally finish the last episode of season one, 'The Forms of Things Unknown', (thank you William Shakesphere for the basis of that title), and this particular episode is easily the most strikingly photographed of all the episodes included in season one. I recall seeing it upon it's first airing in 1964 and though only 10 years old at the time, the episode left an indellable mark upon me. The great Conrad Hall was the cameraman here. The Blu-ray discs in the set have offered up wonderful bonus commentaries on nearly all the episodes, and the deep blacks, and the grey scales are superb here.
Have any of you had the chance to view any of these newly remastered episodes yet?

I have the old double-sided DVD set, so any and all information you can tell me about the BR set is welcome. I absolutely love this show; rediscovered it around 2000 when they would air at midnight on SciFi. Is the quality upgrade substantial? The cost is sort of keeping me away for right now...

LeHah: I hated those double-sided discs. Every single time I'd take one out or put one back into that 'accident-waiting-to-happen' holder, I felt the discs would snap and break. That, plus the facts that even with my very best 'readers', I could NOT make out those tiny words printed just outside the hole of the disc. So it was a crap-shoot whenever I put in one of those discs as to exactly which side was inserted.
The Blu-rays, I feel, make the shadows and darkness of these old B & W episodes more compelling. Keep in mind that all the episodes used tons of 'stock footage', and those pieces of stock footage still contain dirt and debris and scratches, but they're only onscreen for a few seconds. The filmed shows themselves are a marvel, save up your money to get these if you can. I shouold mention that the cost on Amazon has DROPPED several dollars since the sets went on sale. THAT'S SOMETHING!

Aye, I'm waiting for a good Christmas sale or something before grabbing them. But they will be mine one day!

Keep checking in at the Kino-Lorber site. You can currently buy it in the $60. range, but K-L does have frequent sales.

Currently down to $54.99 on blu-ray.

I'm not a big commentary fan anyway, but I refuse to watch these with someone else talking. It's so easy to ruin a cherished experience by hearing a disagreeable opinion during the experience. I dont mind reading dissent elsewhere, and these are probably the last videos I want to insulate this way.
That said, I did click on the commentary briefly with Gary Gerani and Steve Mitchell in ZANTI MISFITS. Unfortunately they were bickering rather than being informative. I was also curious about a glaring "goof" in FUN AND GAMES, but only got David Schow bitching about something else. It's almost like the video ruined their commentary.wink

Too much biography when only one commentator. Two person commentary can solve that.
