I don't agree with trolling or personally attacking actors, but maybe "fans" are justified in their criticisms of Star Wars as it exists nowadays. I know SJW's just don't get it. They're all about shutting down decent and vilifying other fans. Which is a major point to make. The fans who are unhappy with Star Wars criticize the writing, direction and producers, not other Star Wars fans. The SJW crowd just attacks other fans. So who's the righteous ones here? I am not sure what SJWs (an overused term to begin with) have to do with the bullying being done to Ms. Tran. If anything, it is some of the people who accused The Last Jedi of being a SJW film that are attacking her. It is fair to not like the film, and fair to not like her character or the actress' performance, and fair to express all of those criticisms constructively, but nothing justifies the attacks she received on social media. As the article points out, it is sadly one more example of bullying tactics used against actresses in SF/Fantasy movies. There is simply no excuse justifying what these trolls have been doing. Also tired of this just being put on Star Wars fans, there's heated opposition in any fandom. Agreed. Solo's box office performance notwithstanding, few movies/series get the same amount of attention as Star Wars.

I don’t use Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and really have little desire to do so and this sort of thing is one reason. I don’t fear anything someone might say to me, I just don’t want to publish something stupid worldwide. The ability to instantly tell the world your thoughts is a double-edged sword, IMO. Some on this board have expressed it and I’ve seen it elsewhere as well but basically, just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should. There’s just so much hype nowadays. I guess it’s always been there, just never has it been so easily made public. And it is on all sides as well. Criticism is so often labeled as hate or some -ist or -ism by the targets of said criticism and even dilutes the concept. At the same time, actual hatred and all is so easily expressed as well. Holland’s article (thanks, Thomas) of course is specific to Star Wars, but some of the same thing goes on within other confines. I find it interesting how nowadays it seems few folks will/can debate and instead resort to name-calling and ad-hominem attacks. When one resorts to this sort of thing, it reveals far more about the one doing the name-calling and attacks than it does about the target. It is unfair what happened to Ms. Tran and I hope she doesn’t let it get to her. Like the old saying, you just have to “consider the source”. I do wonder how many people would say some of the things they put out if they had to do it face to face.

She doesn't deserve to be personally attacked, but it's also the SJW's who champion any female or minority in a role regardless how badly the character is written. And when you point that out your attacked as being sexist, racists, or a troll. So the attacks go both ways and are just as vicious from the "righteous" crowd. And again everyone has their haters, it's not confined to one sex, race, genre.

I blamed the internet above, but what I should have said is it's more SOCIAL MEDIA that's the problem. People feeling the need to share their EVERYTHING with the world. I just don't get it. I can see the positives and benefits of the whole Facebook, Twitter world, even if I don't indulge myself, but like a lot of things, it gets ruined by all the d!cks and tools who think they somehow matter.

I'm not on social media and haven't seen the trolling, so I'll just assume it's very bad. But I would suggest that some SW fans have become toxic because SW has been completely twisted into a social engineering and propaganda platform by Kathleen Kennedy. The plot of The Last Jedi was specifically designed make fools of the 1970s Star Wars film fans. It pulls a late-story switcheroo that turns the male protagonists into useless fools, while it suddenly vindicates and lionizes a female character who has, up to that point, been abrasive, condescending, and insulting toward men as such. That's Kathleen Kennedy's ideology being shoved down our throats. Of course some fans are angry. I read in the paper today (Saturday Times) that the latest Star Wars epic is set to lose between $50 to $80 million now worldwide figures are in. Maybe Disney are milking the franchise too hard or the last film had its critics or this one isn't really that good. The underperformance might be due to the Kennedy-SW boycott that got rolling after The Last Jedi stank up the franchise. I wouldn't pay to see Solo under any circumstances.
