I'm way more a Marvel fan as a rule, but have an appreciation for some of the DC movies. And I certainly respect what others like.

I bring this up because I just read a review of Infinity War (haven't seen it yet) that was a good example of the rampant jealousy and dumbness between the two factions. It amazes me that people can't simply not like or like something and shut the heck up about it.

It's rare I read more polarized opinions than regarding this topic, and many so unnecesarily vehement as to seem pre-teen.

In any event, I'm curious as to other members' feelings on this.

You raise good points! Like Thomas’ Star Wars Fans thread, much of the same applies.
When I was growing up, it was frowned upon to name-call and attack/accuse those with whom you disagreed. In school debate clubs, etc., it wasn’t allowed. One had to debate facts.
Alinsky’s Rules 5, 6, 10 and 13 are so commonly used now, likely unconsciously, that it seems to be more common than debating.

I’m not really a fan of the DC and Marvel universes, really, even though I’ve seen many of the films, so I’ve no vested interest. I think some are just so invested in these movies and characters, know how things are “supposed” to be, that they freak out when things aren’t how they want them to be or others disagree with their idea of what should be.

As far as the films go it's a matter of personal taste in style. DC films are dark, depressing, dirty. Marvel are bright, positive, and uplifting. One could argue the difference in scripts and production values too.

I haven't followed comics in 40 years so I am out of the loop in style and taste. But as far as DC, I'm old school. I want Superman from 78, not the wretched character he is today.

Why are Marvel/DC Fans So Toxic?

Because they're just like soundtrack fans?

"...just like soundtrack fans" sounds about right. But I still will never understand why grown adults love what I always though was kid stuff.

I can PROUDLY say that I've never seen ANY of these idiotic films... no interest in them whatsoever!

No one cares...and that's not what the topic's about.

I'm sorry Jim but this has to be one of the most useless posts I've seen on FSM. Somebody had a bad day and wants to whine.

You'd be surprised. Graphic novels have become another form of art (not necessarily superhero stuff, although even there great stories exist).

I don't see Marvel fans being toxic? DC fans yes. They actually went to Rotten Tomatoes and "ballot stuffed" Marvel (and Star Wars!) movies with negative user reviews.

Personally, I think the new DC movies are awful and the Marvel ones are *usually good*. On the other hand, the Marvel cartoons are usually dreadful and the DCAU stuff is gang-busters. Go figure.

WOW, that's pretty hilarious. Well, when it comes to movies DC really is comparitively bumming. I love Man of Steel and the original Superman and really like the Dark Knight Trilogy. But there have been so many great Marvel movies before and since...

At this point it doesn't seem like much of a loss, Jim.

I have an appreciation for both - I grew up reading both Marvel and DC comics.

Marvel's Animated movies - and some of their latest TV cartoons have been awful. Their animated series of the 90's and Avenger's Earth's Mightiest Heroes were fantastic.

Some movies are better than others.

DC Animation pretty much all around has been impressive.

In that case, the mind is also like an anus. wink

?????
Did you even read your own first post?
Saying you respect what others like means that you also have to respect what others don't like.
Otherwise it's a thread with no purpose other than seeing your own words.
And remember, in your first post you invited opinions.
You can't cry foul when you get them just because they don't necessarily jibe with yours or they meander in their point a little.

It's okay if he's not interested in the genre, but the comment is sort of condescending. And how can anyone know they're idiotic unless you've seen them?
