I like the way people talk as if Tarantino INVENTED ANYTHING!!!
The guy hacked his way into a career and has been rambling, rambling, rambling on ever since.
I don't think it's possible to RIP OFF Tarantino as he is the very definition of RIP OFF!!

Like him or not, his films are for the most part very stylized, and consequently, very recognizable. This film looks to me like it is trying to ape Tarantino. Or at least the trailer looks that way.

Successful artists are ripped off in every medium and every genre. If there is money to be made, artists will be imitated.

Wow, a suite recorded on someone's phone, that has more punch and dynamic range then the actual studio recording probably will have.

Hilarious.

Still, Richard Jenkins cursing out the video of the Japanese girls after they vanquished the ghost made me laugh harder than most actual comedies.

"How hard is it to kill nine-year-olds…?!"

I only listened to the first 9 tracks. I think the choral stuff in the suite is interesting and maybe some of the textures and piano pieces. But overall, the score is pretty boring so far.

Yeah, it's pretty dull. There's a few highlight tracks here and there but a good fifty minutes of this score could be expunged without losing much.

This is one of the best films I've seen at the cinema this year.
I didn't come out buzzing as much as I did after BABY DRIVER, but it's still a splendid time at the movies.
Thoroughly engrossing and suspenseful, with a neat Agatha Christie vibe and a truly cinematic feel, it's two for two now by this Drew Goddard fella.
It's also interesting to note certain similarities to CABIN IN THE WOODS. The guy sure likes his two-way mirror plot devices and portentous 'big bad' build-up.
MG's score did some great grunt work, keeping things moving and chugging along and although there wasn't that much I'd want to hear stand-alone, it's main purpose was well and truly achieved. And at least it sounded like a proper film score.

movie is like a bad and boring LOST episode ( ... but 140 min long!!!) directed by a Tarantino wannabe

Giacchino's score is barely noticeable with so many songs around

Well, if by Tarantino wannabe you mean 'was there lengthy scenes of endless, inane yap about FUCK ALL and vinyl needle drop songs', thankfully the answer is NO.

Please God no. It will sound like it's being performed by 3 brass players, and a few violinists in his garage.

Then he will pun it all up and call his first cue "Bad Times At X-Force High" or some other cringy nonsense. roll eyes big grin

Well that didn't take long.

Lol!

The film itself is decent, nothing groundbreaking but not a ripoff. It does hearken back to a filmnoir style of filmmaking and ends up with characters you do care about and I was certainly stressed at the end of what was gonna happen to who. And there are some surprises thrown in for good measure. The previews do try to make it look like a cool, hipster, Tarantino kind of flick but in reality it's not. It has a measured, steady pace punctuated by moments of brief but brutal violence that keep you on your toes.

In regards to the music, it was hardy noticeable as the songs the used are front and center. I didn't even know that MG scored it to be honest as I didn't really bother to look. Nothing during the course of the film stood out or allowed me to take notice, whether thats a good thing or bad thing I dont know.

7 out of 10
