I think this needs its own thread. La La Land june 26. Thomas Newman's iconic score to 1985's The Man With One Red Shoe starring Tom Hanks.
I have wanted this score on CD since around 1990, when I saw the film for the first time. The opening theme, the airport scene and the end credits (featuring Michael Masser's love theme) are all ingrained in my brain. The score is among my holy grails and I guess I have nagged about it here from time to time... :-D
Now it looks like the time has finally come for a label to put it out on CD. My "unmentionable" CD can finally be put to rest. I even bought the DVD to get to listen to the full score.
Hoping for some great liner notes too! Would be interesting to read what the director Stan Dragoti (now 85) thought about the score.
Outstanding news! Great to see Thomas Newman slowly getting a bit of love from the labels. Got my own personal grail of his ( LESS THAN ZERO) but happy to have any of his early stuff released.
Yes, I think my copy arrived on Thursday. (I live in LA, so it made it quickly). Great sound. I had had one of the tape-sourced boots of this long ago, and the CD sounds infinitely better. Although there are some brash "pure 80s" cues in there that won't ever risk making my "top ten" list, a lot of the album is a delight for me. I'm glad LLL is going through the effort to put out some of these forgotten scores for pictures that people barely remember. Newman in particular did some really interesting stuff early on that's totally worth listening to.
