Newman in particular did some really interesting stuff early on that's totally worth listening to.

Yes! Couldn't agree more. There's a treasure trove of early stuff from him that I hope sees the surface one of these days.

I just ordered mine. 34 dollars to Norway. Yiiiiiikes!!!!!!!!

But I'm disappointed that the airport theme and the full end credits featuring Newman's version of the love theme don't seem to be included on the CD. I wonder if the liner notes tell us why.

I really hope LaLaLand and other labels will to continue to release older scores by Thomas Newman (Men Don't Leave, Phenomenon, The Newsroom, etc.) - however, this CD was released so stealthily that I only came upon it by accident, and when I told a fellow Newman-fan about this release a couple of days ago (someone who's usually on top of things), it was the first thing he had heard about it as well.

I'm afraid that disappointing CD sales of this title might prevent future releases from happening, and I'm a bit worried that the less than stellar, completely off the rader roll-out this soundtrack has had, pushed forward from another release date, dwarfed by the huge news about the Film Music Heritage Collection and then put on the market after almost no anticipation had been built up, might lessen any future chances of that.

Please, if you read this and are a fellow Thomas Newman-fan: pass this one forward, spread the news and buy this great score. It's an amazing CD that may not have gotten the spotlight it truly deserves.

Well, I think it's a bit early to call this a flop.

I have received the CD and played through it once. Review coming soon. Anyone else who received their copy? Comments?

i feel like it's been quite some time since I found a track I had to play on repeat ad nauseam. The Chase is that track. I love it and cannot get enough of it. The rest of the album is quite satisfying as well.

So glad to have this score on disc! I can't say it often or loud enough but thanks again La La Land for the effort of releasing this early Newman score, as well as Less Than Zero.

I have to admit, this was never a score that I really thought about and didn’t even really know if I wanted it, but after listening to the clips I immediately remembered how much I actually liked this music. It really takes me back to the 80s.

I’ve been enjoying the hell out of this CD. The sound quality is incredible too.

I wouldn’t have sought this out, but I’m really glad I stumbled upon it.

Questions:

Am I the only one who noticed that those two themes I refer to in the review are not on the CD?

No one else missing those themes?? :-D

Perhaps people don't know the film well enough.

I’m not overly familiar with the movie...

I need to rewatch the film, but the major thing I miss, I THINK, was the end title that plays the Masser theme in counterpoint to Newman's music. But it was probably created editorially (really hate these!!), missing or who knows.
Maybe MM will chime in....is what it is, otherwise, album is perfection, played it a ton already.

This album as it presented is absolutely a win, I think it makes a well-rounded listen. I also noted the missing end credits piece that incorporates the Masser love theme with Newman's material and it's pretty feasible that this was created without Newman's involvement. If that's the case, I understand why Newman as an artist wouldn't want it included on album of his own music that he's helping produce.

Michael Masser will not chime in, as he passed away some years ago.

I'm pretty sure Newman was involved in the end credits, it's his style from start to finish.

The non-inclusion of the airport theme is just as puzzling. A great theme which would make a change of pace to the rest of the CD.
