Release Date: June 12, 2018

In collaboration with EMI Music Publishing, Gruppo Sugar and Musiques & Solutions, Music Box Records presents a 3-CD set featuring five French soundtracks composed between 1973 and 1983: Claude Bernard-Aubert’s L’Affaire Dominici (The Dominici Affair) composed by Alain Goraguer (Fantastic Planet), Robert Enrico’s Pile ou Face (Heads or Tails) composed by Lino Léonardi, Jean-Marie Périer’s Antoine et Sébastien composed by Jacques Dutronc and François Rauber, Jean Girault’s L’Intrépide composed by Raymond Lefèvre (The Troops of St. Tropez) and Alain Delon’s Le Battant (The Fighter) composed by Christian Dorisse and supervised by Michel Colombier.

This first box set Rare Soundtracks – Volume 1 puts the spotlight on iconic actors (Alain Delon, Jean Gabin, Jacques Dutronc, Gérard Depardieu…), talented directors (Robert Enrico, Jean-Marie Périer, Jean Girault…) and brilliant screenwriters (Daniel Boulanger, Michel Audiard…). The five films presented here – mostly thrillers and comedies – may not be the most famous ones in their category, but they have the merit of highlighting a certain spirit, that of “quality” popular French cinema. Although they are not François de Roubaix, Michel Legrand or Philippe Sarde, they have been able like them to create very specific musical universes and to write melodies that deserve to be properly appreciated and valued.

The present 3-CD edition has been fully remastered from the session tapes and includes a 16-page booklet with liner notes by Nicolas Magenham. Limited Edition of 350 units.

This looks great. Looking forward to Lefèvre, Dutronc & Goraguer. I wonder why it is on 3 CDs as it fits on 2 CDs... but why not I guess!

Thanks MBR for this alluring 1st box of rarities! I'm so happy that you included the haunting score to L'AFFAIRE DOMINICI. L'INTREPIDE and LE BATTANT are also very welcome. The two others will be discoveries as far as I'm concerned. Let's hope this item will be successfull enough...

I've had LE BATTANT on a Quebec LP for many years and really enjoy it. Not so sure the other titles are of any personal interest, though...

Makes sense to me you won't have to change disc to listen to the full scores big thanks for that from me. wink

The set is worth buying for me to get Alain Goraguer score, not keen on most of the 80s stuff nice to see some from the 70s something from the 60s would be even better.

WHy should you have to change the discs?
CDs 1 and 3 could be easily combined on a single CD... the same way first CD and first score on the 2nd could be CD one, while the remaining scores would still fit on the 2nd disc with a lot of space left on both of them...

Could have been some contractual reasons perhaps?

Yes I don't mind 3 CDs or 2 CDs but I just hope it doesn't change the profit margin...

I liked parts of "Le Battant", but for me the rest was "L’Intrepide". I rest I can pretty much leave ,especially those annoying accordion parts.

I have to say, with more discs and it being from overseas (shipping costs), the likely hood of me buying this one day isn't that great though. If I found it used from a user years from now for a good low price, I'd probably get it.

I am listening this box and i think it is really a must to have for french rare soundtrack collectors.
I love french polar soundtracks from the 80's so i enjoy a lot Le battant i waited since a long time.
The crystal box is really better quality compared of digipack often used and and the three discs allow to have
Le Battant only on one cd, i really like it.
I hope a second box including many french obscure and rare soundtracks will be offered quickly.
I think to "La balance " by Roland Bocquet available on Itunes by example or "Effraction" by Maurice Vander.
Many many thanks to Music Box Records for this collection and for great sound quality.

This box is now sold out at Music Box Records store so I hope that it has been a successful release for the label and hopefully a second volume will follow. I am definitely glad to have this!

My favorite score from the box is Alain Goraguer's "Affaire Dominici". Mr. Goraguer will turn 87 next Monday and I wonder if he was anyhow involved in (or at least aware of) the production of this box? I still hope that more of his music will get released (titles such as "Sur un arbre perché" or "Au-delà de la peur" could raise some interest among the European soundtracks fans).
