I love Hershey chocolate and I don't care who hates me for it.

One of the greatest simple pleasures I know is a Hershey (especially with almonds) candy bar. I've eaten plenty of European chocolate, and it is often delightful, but there's something about Hershey that is uniquely wonderful--and I do not share Monty Dave's bizarre, entirely subjective description of said Hershey's.

I'll go and buy a Hershey bar today. smile

I agree with Monty Dave on EuroKitKat, though; it's superior to its American counterpart by far.

Chunky Kit Kats are my favourite. Do you get those in the USA?

On a US holiday I was perturbed to see Mars Bars on a shop shelf... with almonds in them. That was weird. Almonds don't belong in Mars Bars. smile

Yes. If it makes one fat, then chances are we have it. wink

Your Mars bar is like our Milky Way bar. The Mars bar you tried is hard to find where I live, so I make do with the Snickers with Almonds bar. I tried the Euro Milky Way last year. It was nice. Lighter than ours.

Of course the simple fact here is that we all love stuff we grew up with, and are used to. My wife insists on buying healthy wholemeal bread with all manner of seeds and nutty bits in. I HATE this for a straight sandwich! Nothing beats white bread for me with some things, like toast or a bacon sandwich. Until I met her I never ate nutty bread.

Of course there's another debate. The American bread is so SWEET! I got a Wonderloaf a few weeks ago while staying in Disney World, Florida, and couldn't get over how sweet it was. My wife fared no better with her nutty wholemeal loaf. That was the same. Eating it toasted was like eating what we Brits call a toasted teacake ( a bread bun with dried fruit in), but there was no fruit in it.

But back to chocolate bars, I was delighted in 1989 when visiting my sister in Canada, to find the peanut butter
Twix. Loved those. Now we get the Reeces things all the time here, but back then it was new to us.

Yeah, I don't like Hershey's, not very nice & it has a tang to it. I read somewhere that the flavour is historical, apparently many decades ago, by the time the milk got to the factory it had gone slightly off, & people got used to the flavour & they kept it. I read that years ago, I don't know how true it is. Cadbury is fine, but I haven't had a Flake in years, I used to dip it in tea, but you had to be fast. The "good" stuff comes from Mainland Europe, but German stores in the UK like Lidl & Aldi sell some fantastic chocolate from South America & a few other hot countries. My favourite unhealthy snack is a good shot of bourbon & dark (75%) chocolate.

Bourbon? That's about as American as it gets. I can't stand the stuff, though my grandfather was a dedicated Bourbon man. Drank Old Fashioned's exclusively.

When I was in London, it seemed that Tennessee Whiskey, namely Jack Daniel's, was quite popular among Londoners. Now THAT stuff I love. MOJO magazine had a contest where one of the prizes was a botttle of Jack. Well played, old sticks.

Oh, and I found it fascinating to learn that Scotch whisky uses American Oak barrel in its aging process. That's the very best in international cooperation. wink
