I think UMG also owns the two Lai albums I want the most, Hello-Goodbye & I'll Never Forget What's 'is Name. One day, maybe.

You are correct. The former was a 20th Century Fox LP, the latter a Decca LP.

Any idea with whom one would work to get ROOTS OF HEAVEN released on CD?

An alternative to a CD release is to buy the Twilight Time Blu-ray of the film, which has an isolated score track. Reviews say that, although the track has some minimal sound effects, it is in stereo.

That disc is currently on sale for the very reasonable price of $6.95.

It's surprising that THE SUN ALSO RISES hasn't had a region A Blu-ray release. One would have expected Twilight Time to release it but given that they almost always like to include an isolated score, suggests that perhaps the music tracks are lost or unusable.

There is a UK region B Blu-ray release of the film. The packaging states the audio as being mono but it is in fact 2 channel stereo and sounds excellent.

Interesting: I ordered a copy of SUN ALSO RISES, but I was told it was "sold out"! I'm getting all the same my copy, but... what a success for a classical "forgotten" title! Please, more Friedhofer! We still are expecting WHITE FEATHER!
