...and I'm SURE this has been asked before, but the "S" on the end of "Georges" is silent... is that correct? French pronunciation, kinda like "zhorzh"... Though I did have a friend years ago who said it like "George is" and it took me a while to work out what he was talking about...
Having just travelled through several continental European countries, and being unable to utter more than a few words in the local languages (well, I am English!), I take to the general rule ... in Italian you pronounce every letter (but 'c' can be very confusing ... soft or hard, or - as in Piccioni - when doubled it inherits what sounds, to me, like a 't') ...
... whereas, in French, you never sound the last letter unless it is accented (e.g. when the Concorde was named it had to be spelt with the 'e' so that the full name would be pronounced ... or is that fokelore?)
