Cool. Whatever you may think of Gottfried (I love him), the podcast isn’t that. He’s a treasure trove of pop culture knowledge and his co-host Frank helps keeps things moving. Whatever you may think of Giacchino I’d expect this to be a lively and unusually in-depth conversation with a composer on a mainstream podcast.
Yeah, I’ve listened to a bunch of GG’s podcast. Great stuff. Will listen to this on the drive home.

Thanks for the heads up. The podcast is frequently great and his co-host Frank Santopadre (sp?) is very informed too. They mostly seem to favour older actors, actresses and comedians so far as I've heard. This should be great!

Gottfried and Giacchino bring roughly the same amount of subtlety to their work. This should be interesting.
[Letterman voice] Well this is fitting, because in addition to doing the voice of beloved Disney characters like Iago the parrot, Gilbert Gottfried also provides the voice of ... Giacchino’s brass section! Did, did you hear that Paul? Giacchino’s brass section.

This is one of the most fun discussions I've heard in a long time. Three film music geeks just geeking out on everything from Steiner's influence to John Williams' genius to the great jazz scores of the 50s and 60s. Hans J. Salter even gets some lovins, and they erupt at the mention of Valley of the Gwanji. Tons of stories. Giacchino is such a great ambassador for the film composer fraternity.

There was an awkward moment when they played Giacchino’s Star Trek theme, one of the insanely over-the-top versions with a screaming chorus, and as soon as it was over, Giacchino gushed about how brilliant it was and agreed with the co-host when he remarked that the music was better than the movie. It wasn’t until the co-host said Robert Wise’s name that I figured out that they must have been listening to the Goldsmith theme for TMP.
