La-La Land Records and Universal Pictures proudly present the debut title in the Universal Pictures Film Music Heritage Collection—the world premiere release of renowned composer Michel Colombier’s (UNE CHAMBRE EN VILLE, AGAINST ALL ODDS, RUTHLESS PEOPLE, THE GOLDEN CHILD) original motion picture score to the 1970 classic sci-fi feature film COLOSSUS: THE FORBIN PROJECT, starring Eric Braeden, Susan Clark and Gordon Pinsent, and directed by Joseph Sargent. Never before officially available in any format, Colombier’s wildly inventive score finally gets the deluxe treatment it deserves. It’s a musical marvel, and key to the film’s unending cult status, as it expertly balances cold suspense and unrelenting dread with moving emotion and even romance. Produced, mixed into stereo from 3-channel split elements, and mastered by Mike Matessino, this special release is limited to 3000 units and features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and sharp art design by Dan Goldwasser.

Wonderful. At long last, the music vaults of Universal are being opened. Great score by Colombier, in fact most of his early scores for Universal at that time were exceptional. My particular favourite - a double header - are HAROLD ROBBIN'S THE SURVIVORS. Fantastic main theme, which I can still hear today some 50 years on. I found a short 50 seconds or so on Youtube, so it is better than nothing. Anyone recall Joan Hackett and Arthur Hill in THE OTHER MAN? Terrific score in a very good early TV Movie. Very inventive.

Maybe THE RHINEMANN EXCHANGE. The list goes on ................. and that is just one Composer. The scores by David Shire and Billy Goldenberg languishing in the vaults are just mouthwatering.

Still we have start somewhere, and it is a great place to start . Well done indeed !!

This is a great choice to debut the new series by showcasing an underrepresented composer. And one of my grails. wink

The sample track labled "Rendezvous in Rome" is actually "Missile Launched." Otherwise the samples sound terrific and I'll be eager to finally have this one to get lost in.

I also agree with the above comments about Colombier's theme for THE SURVIVORS and his score for THE OTHER MAN. They've both been nestled in my memory bank since I first heard them.

It's just kind of cool, so many decades later, that I'm able to snag both Damnation Alley and Colossus in the course of six months. Makes this sci-fi fan (who came of age in the 70's) one happy camper!

True, but hopefully the actual track "Rendezvous in Rome" starts with Forbin on the plane.

Me too. This was a holy grail. So much so ordered today and playing sample tracks today.

Excellent! Ordered at LLL yesterday. At last, they released one of my holy grails from my wish list.
The audio samples are very good and the majority of the samples is string-oriented except the laid-back funky Under Surveillance.

Saw the film once, on the telly in about 1975. Loved it, and the score stuck in my head all those decades. Another one on pre-order, to arrive at my dear wife's place of work, with a cash-on-delivery slip, in time for Christmas.

"Rendezvous in Rome" does start on the plane but the bulk of this track has never been heard before since it was dialed out and replaced with Colombier's main title music in the film. Don't worry, all of the score is included as well as some fascinating unused material.

And in the future, for ALL RELEASES, I recommend that folks hold comments like this until they actually have it in their hands.
