I hope they all get out, sounds like they will. But, going in there, ritual or rite of passage or whatever, looks like a pretty stupid idea. Maybe they will change over to another ritual after this.

You're missing the point. "Risk...risk is our business." That and antibodies.
Yeah, an almost unbelievable outcome, given the complexity of the situation. At first they were talking about months of waiting and training, and with the imminent monsoon... I think that few of us had high hopes. But it seems that the very severity of things sparked a solid determination in the rescue team to get things done no matter what. Faith in humanity restored. Such a pity about the death of one of the rescuers, in the first days. It's all ripe for Hollywood, but surely it would seem too far-fetched...
I hope that the kids are well enough to accept the invitation to the World Cup final. They'll probably still be under hospital observation. There's apparently been some lung damage and stuff like that due to having spent so long in putrid air. And then there are the possible psychological effects, which might not be easily detectable now, but which could manifest themselves after a longer period of time.
It's amazing that things turned out the way they did. Even if they can't manage the football final, I'm sure they'll soon be enjoying a plate of spicy duck (or whatever it was they were craving for).
I heard more details about the rescue this morning. It's a TV movie waiting to be made.
Hearing the details, it's amazing they lived. The water was rising, the air was becoming stale, one Navy SEAL died during the attempt (and they are better trained for such things than the kids); so much could have gone wrong.

The 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days in 2010 got a theatrical feature for their trouble (THE 33 [2015] starring Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Juliette Binoche, James Brolin, and Lou Diamond Phillips).
I already cast The Rock as the star (six posts back) with the tagline, "I'm not leaving my sons down there!" It'll probably go direct-to-streaming-home-video.
Great news kids saved, at that age agonising times, the coach 28 should've known better being the rainy season, they may have been in the cave before + society, but this is the outcome experts were needed, caves are dangerous inside, bad knowledge footing, handling rubble falls.
