It's weird how some scores just pass you by and slip through unheard.
Back in the 80's, I should have been ALL OVER this score.
I already had QUEST FOR FIRE, GHOST STORY, TESS & FORT SAGANNE on LP (I think TESS was a tape dub) and loved them.
I was still aware of his stuff and buying them (MANHATTAN PROJECT, MUSIC BOX, LORD OF THE FLIES) and didn't mind that he was like a French James Horner, liberally borrowing from classical works and re-using his own stuff time and again.
His style and music was great and it was a treat getting to know his scores.
But this one...for some reason...I never heard, never bought...it just walked on by.
Until TODAY!!!
I added the Music Box re-issue to a recent Intrada order, figuring, 'I've gotta hear it sometime!'.
It's EVERYTHING I expected it to be.
Richly classical in style. Just gorgeous orchestral scoring. Bold! Tender! Soft! Playful! Racy!
You can tell it's Sarde too, cos his voice from other scores by him are all over it.
I'm gonna really look forward to playing this over and over and getting to know it like it's 1988.
It only took me 33 YEARS!!

Everything you said, keV, the same for me. Been playing it a fair bit and no skipping tracks, either.

That's weird, day..
I figured YOU would have gotten this back in the day (that's probably why I haven't got a tape of it at the least!!) wink
The 46 minute score programme (tracks 1-15) is perfect.
The 6 Theme/Variations Bonus tracks are pleasant enough, but I'll probably not transfer them over to my 'Band On The Run' version when I load the CD for transfer to my player.
But they'll always get an airing when I'm playing the CD.
They're more like a private little recital of the score that a few friends knocked together for me.

I remember watching this on HBO or Showtime, one of those pay cable channels back in the day. Loved the score. The expanded release was an instant buy for me. Absolutely love this score. It's just gorgeous.

That's weird, day...

The only reason I can come up with is because it was in two suites ( wasn't it). Not much , I know.

Ahhhhh, the original issue was one of those 2x20+ minute a side releases* was it?
Interesting.
I was never a fan of that set-up.
It just came across as lazy and annoying.
That may well be why I avoided it, if so.

*like TAI-PAN and JAGGED EDGE and such like.
