An excellent opportunity to pick up a few Herrmann and Korngold titles I've missed over the years!

Haha! Yeah and I noticed none of them came out with 4th of July sales. I guess they thought it best not to compete nationally with retail stores or Internet giants like Amazon. LLL got my money as they made the announcement first.

For anyone who'd appreciate recommendations:

ALL of the Tribute Film Classics recordings are must-haves IMO, but here's how I'd prioritize them:

1. Mysterious Island (favorite Herrmann score, best Herrmann performance/recording ever)
2. Fahrenheit 451 (also superlative; Bill Stromberg conducts Herrmann better than Herrmann)
3. The Kentuckian (a unique Herrmann Americana sound which I fell in love with)
4. The Battle of Neretva / The Naked and the Dead (was I the only one who wished Neretva was the suite and Naked and the Dead was recorded complete? Still, a great album!)
5. The Prince and the Pauper (Korngold is still the greatest conductor of his own work but this is a glorious recording)
6. She (I'm not a huge Steiner fan but this score has a lot to offer including a beautiful love theme and some real setpieces)
7. The Adventures of Don Juan / Arsenic and Old Lace (a nice twofer and a superlative performance/recording, though I still consider Don Juan to be poor man's Korngold and I prefer the real thing)
8. Charge of the Light Brigade (I listen to this the least since it's so busy and overwhelming, but an impressive achievement nevertheless)

Here are the still in print SAE titles I can highly recommend:
1. Captain from Castile (a MUST HAVE, my favorite Golden Age score and Alfred Newman score, over a dozen great themes make an epic tapestry)
2. Night and the City (fantastic Frankel/Waxman twofer)
3. The Foxes of Harrow (Newman conducted but Buttolph composed...but the music sounds so Newman-ish you'll love it anyway -- try the Main Title sound clip!)
4. The Razor's Edge (I do a little editing with this one, but there's some sublime Newman material here)
5. Dragonwyck (unique cool moody Newman)
6. Son of Fury/The Black Swan/The Blue Bird (all good Newman albums too, though not the "mature" Newman sound I love most)

What ever happened to TFC?
Why did they stop production?

Funding dried up. As James Fitzpatrick has often said, new recordings of film music are largely a money losing venture.
