Jaded Jackfu’s cynical checklist: Moody, somber, ominous lighting – check Deluge, monsoon-like rainfall – check Main cast wide eyed, open-mouth awe and fear-struck stares – check Beautiful heroines for chickifcation factor – check Adolescent, ascending star to bring in the teenie boppers – check Same star with inferred mystic, psychic connection to “Titans” - check Beautiful, lilting music to contrast the coming maelstrom – check Teasers inferring infamous guest “Titans” – check Said “Titans” rising from water, etc. in grandeur and fury – check (Interesting that rain has no effect on Mothra, even tho most moths I’ve seen don’t fare well in rain). Killer quote to wrap the preview (“Long live the King”) – check Yep, I’m cynical about it and the more hype I see, the less optimistic I am. Oh! Forgot one – it also has “Godzilla” - check

“Chickification”! Lovely word, sounds ruder than it is. One bit of narration on that trailer stands out: “.... our planet will perish, and so will we”. The worst writing since “When you set out for revenge, first dig two graves. One for you and one for him”. I keep looking at my daughters and all of my female friends, and not a single one looks like a tiny yellow bird with feathers. Maybe I need glasses? To clarify (and likely add insult to injury) "chickification" simply refers to the annoying trait of films to have female protagonists whom are the only possible solution to the problem because men are so stupid and so technologically inclined and stupid and warlike and stupid and on and on. I have no problem with women being the star, the protagonist, the hero, etc., just get annoyed when it is so overblown and over-the-top. It's the same way when films have women as helpless, resourceless, damsel-in-distress types always needing rescuing. And no, my daughter doesn't have feathers or look like a tiny bird either. And she hates chick flicks.

Jackfu, I was kind of playing with you. (After all you are a great poet.) Can't say I've ever liked the term "chick flick" because of my lack of feathers. I do think there are movies that do appeal more to women than men. However, I must say I do like Roster Flicks. I like scary movies, action oriented movies, thrillers, etc. I'm a mutant. Most of my girlfriends avoid those movie. They just won't watch violence. Too bad because they haven't met RIPLEY! Thanks Joan, I thought as much. And your comeback was very funny. I won't use that term anymore out of my respect and love for you. With that said, I never intended the term as a slam against women, but movies. It's the way so many films nowadays just overplay their manipulation of their audiences (us). All movies manipulate - that's how we are convinced to suspend our disbelief or care for the characters. So much of it now just is so heavy handed, it infuriates me. I mean, I get my hopes up for a new G flick and they come up with a trailer that disappoints me. I already can't stand the leads and I haven't seen the film! Enough whine, I'm out of cheese to go with it. And I'm with you; Ripley is one of my top heroes. Heart of gold, nerves of steel!

That's how I read it. Maybe it should have been "chickiflickation". And careful, Joan - when you set out for revenge, you first dig two graves. One for him, and, uh, y'know. I like that, TG! The new buzzword, chickiflickation! Need we give attribution when using it from now on? No, you’re fine on that point, Jackfu. In fact, leave me out of it altogether, for pity’s sake!
